In 2017 when the Unicameral took up State Preemption of gun laws, the Omaha World Herald reported on Aaron Hanson's views on gun control:
Omaha Police Sgt. Aaron Hanson, testifying on behalf of the police union, said the ordinances give authorities another tool to combat gun violence. In addition to the registry, he said officers highly value a rule that prohibits people under 21 from possessing a handgun in Omaha. (State law sets the minimum age at 18.)
Itās one thing to allow a farmer to keep a loaded rifle in his pickup to shoot coyotes, but police donāt want to allow armed teenagers to legally cruise through Omaha, Hanson added.
āThe transportation of a loaded handgun might not raise an eyebrow in Albion, Nebraska, which hasnāt experienced a homicide in almost 20 years,ā Hanson said. āBut it could raise a huge red flag for an Omaha police officer giving special attention to a west Omaha bar parking lot with a history of gang violence.ā
It's hard to reconcile Aaron's position then and more recently on the Sen. Brewer Constitutional Carry bill, with a supporter of the 2nd Amendment.
Legislative Bill 68 has been identified as the top priority of fi****ms organizations and many gun owners, who say the assortment of regulations in Omaha and Lincoln are confusing and
