This FBI is crushing narcotics networks and dismantling criminal enterprises across the country. As part of Summer Heat 2.0, our teams have seized nearly 10,000 kg of narcotics and 3,116 weapons, and made 5,097 arrests, and we’re not slowing down. On this International Overdose Awareness Day, we reaffirm our commitment to combat drug trafficking organizations and crush violent crime to restore safety in our communities.

As part Operation Summer Heat 2.0 has been working with our local, state, federal, and tribal partners to crush violent crime across Nebraska and Iowa. With approximately, 95 arrests, 65 indictments, and 119 weapons seized so far this summer, our task forces have had a big impact, contributing to our biggest year to year drop in violent crime across the nation.

FBI Omaha will continue to work with our partners to keep our communities in Nebraska and Iowa safe for everyone who lives here.

This week, Supervisory Senior Resident Agent Lesieur attended the National Law Enforcement Partner Conference alongside Police Chief Robert Henry from the Santee Sioux Tribal Police, Police Chief Ansley Griffin from the Omaha Nation Law Enforcement Services, Police Chief Jeremiah Lonewolf from the Winnebago Tribal Police Department, Tribal Council Member Samantha Gallagher from the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska, and Acting Police Chief Jason Gudenkauf from the Meskwaki Nation Police Department. The conference brought partners together to discuss unsolved investigations into homicides, kidnappings, and missing persons in Indian County through our new “Voices Not Forgotten Program”.

Yesterday in Crete, NE, SAC Kowel had the opportunity to meet with Acting Police Chief Jon Pucket in the wake of Chief Gary Young’s sudden death on July 27, 2026, after more than 41 years of service to the community. Was great to connect with members of the Nebraska State Patrol and speak with the local Rotary Club about current threats and the important role strong community partnerships play in keeping our neighborhoods safe.

As part of Operation Steadfast Promise, the FBI initiated Operation Trusted Trails between May 1 and July 31 to identify, dismantle, and hold responsible gangs and transnational organizations that have trafficked illegal drugs on reservations.

Operation Trusted Trails surged FBI investigative and intelligence resources to 11 field offices and resulted in:

• 86 arrests
• 50 subjects charged
• 62 drug seizures, including 25 kg of methamphetamine and 4 kg of co***ne
• 156 weapons recovered

We were honored to attend the 160th Annual Homecoming Celebration Pow Wow at Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska the last full week in July. The FBI Omaha Field Office works closely with our tribal partners in the Winnebago, Santee Sioux, Omaha Nation, and Meskwaki Nation to investigate and apprehend those who commit crimes on tribal lands, such as murder, child abuse, kidnappings, violent assaults, drug trafficking, and other crimes. The FBI—along with our Tribal, Department of Justice, and Department of Interior partners—are committed to addressing the public safety and violence threats facing Native American families and communities.
