Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands We create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

For more than 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As a donor and volunteer-supported organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 7 through 21, throughout the Omaha/Council Bluffs and L

incoln metro areas. We develop positive friendships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in the community, we are accountable for each child in our program achieving:
- Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships
- Avoidance of risky behaviors
- Educational success

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:
Become a mentor and spend time with a youth in your community doing activities you both enjoy through our Community-based program, or work with high school students in our MentorU program. From the moment they met, these two were off to the races. Literally! Rhys is on the Creighton University Cross Country & Track team, so as soon as the match paperwork was complete, a friendly race was naturally in order. 🏁

Between chatting nonstop and even dissecting a toy frog during their icebreaker outing (pictured 🐸😂), Rhys and DeShawn are already having fun together.

💚 Meet Mary — a current Big, BBBS Board Member, and proud member of !

When asked to describe the impact of BBBS in one word, Mary chose “transformative.”

Mary first saw that impact while working as a child welfare caseworker, where she connected the youth she worked with to BBBS. 💬 “I thought about one of my kids who was on the waitlist and realized there was one way I could help. I signed up to be a Big — and I’ve been matched with my Little ever since.”

A talented local artist, Mary lent her time and creativity to bring Team Big to life on our windows. And even more special, Brianna got to stop by to help her paint!

Our Bigs and Littles had the chance to get moving, reset, and most importantly, spend quality time together during a special yoga class led by Power Life Yoga.

🐴 We don’t horse around when it comes to mentorship… okay, maybe we do just a little! We had some special visitors stop by the office today.

Thank you to Captain Paul Hanson, the Omaha Mounted Foundation, and the Omaha Police Department for bringing the horses by to say hello. It was just another day at the office… with a little more horsepower! 💚
