Every step forward matters, but our work is far from over. 💙

In 2024, 48,824 Americans passed away from su***de, which is a 1% decrease from 2023. While a declining rate shows us that community prevention efforts are working, but we never forget the people behind those numbers or the families carrying that loss.

Progress proves that prevention is possible, but it’s also a reminder of why we have to keep fighting for better care, education, and resources.

We won’t stop until accessible support is a reality for everyone. ❤️‍🩹

Mental health was something Amáyá rarely talked about.

Now, as su***de touched her loved ones more than ever before, Amáyá and her family are talking more about mental health — including weekly check ins.

As a citizen of a Native Nation and an American Foundation for Su***de Prevention Lifesaver Ambassador, Amáyá is shedding a light on the impact of su***de on Indigenous Peoples.

"This is the unfortunate mental healthcare (or lack of) reality for Indigenous Peoples. There is a need for us as a community to do and be better at supporting our Indigenous Relatives, and we can."

Read Amáyá's blog:

Before I became a Lifesaver Ambassador for the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP), I rarely, if ever, talked about mental health with anyone. AFSP cares and recognizes that Indigenous Peoples, among other marginalized communities, deserve to be supported and cared for.
