During the 1800's migration westward, many of the people making the long trip from the eastern part of the country decided to stop in the young territory of Nebraska on the western banks of the Missouri River. Douglas County began to grow and the people of the area wanted someone to protect them from outsiders and themselves. This need b

Last night, DCSO deputies worked with the Omaha Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol to combat reckless driving. First, a CAT deputy spotted 47-year-old Scott Quakenbush driving his Toyota Tacoma near 93rd & West Dodge Road at 96 mph in the 45 mph zone. He was booked into jail for reckless driving due to driving more than double the posted speed limit.

A few hours later, another CAT deputy spotted two vehicles racing eastbound near 72nd & Dodge Street. Bradenn Miller, driving his brother's new 2025 Corvette, was also arrested for reckless driving.

Multiple others were cited for spectating a sideshow, exhibition of speed, and other offenses. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Anyone with additional information may contact the DCSO tip line at 402-444-6000 or [email protected].

Nebraska's roads, trails, and sidewalks are shared spaces and all of us have a role to play in keeping each other safe.

Whether you're walking, riding, or driving, the way you move affects everyone around you. Stay aware. Follow the rules. Give each other space.

Bike Walk Nebraska is the state's leading advocate for safe and accessible biking and walking. They are working across Nebraska to make streets safer for vulnerable road users. The DCSO is proud to stand alongside Bike Walk Nebraska in this important effort.

Add your voice to the movement and commit to looking out for one another.

🏍 What is street legal?
Electric Bikes and Off-Road Motorcycles 🚲

Many people may think their ride is legal when it is actually not. Here’s an easy way to tell:
✅ A LEGAL electric bicycle has fully operative pedals and cuts off power at a maximum of 28 miles per hour.

Many times, what people call an electric bicycle is actually an electric motorcycle or dirt bike. Those are not street or sidewalk legal anywhere. Riding of an electric motorcycle, dirt bike, or other off-road vehicle is best done on private property with the owner’s permission.

When ridden on roads or sidewalks, these types of non-street legal rides are subject to being impounded and parents of juvenile riders are subject to citations.

Thank you for helping keep our roads safe!

Parents- Your 14 year-old child has zero business riding one of these electric motorcycles on a roadway. CAT was patrolling the area of 156th & State Street after several complaints, and deputies observed a juvenile riding down 156th Street attempting to stand up on the seat. The juvenile was stopped, his parent was cited, and the electric motorcycle was impounded.

To be clear, these are illegal on main roads, side roads, neighborhoods, and even sidewalks. The excuse of how much money you spent on it doesn't negate the child's lack of riding skills and ability to negotiate traffic.
