GROW SARPY

GROW SARPY We are one of eight counties in this regional development effort and we are co-located at the Greater Omaha Chamber.

Grow Sarpy is solely focused on furthering the economic development of Sarpy County and its environs, promoting and assisting the growth and development of industry and business concerns in Sarpy County. Grow Sarpy, formerly known as Sarpy County Economic Development Corporation or SCEDC, is a regional partner with the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership, a program of the Greater Omaha

Chamber. We joined forces with the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership in 1991 to increase our ability to serve the fastest-growing county in the State of Nebraska.

Skilled trades are shaping the future of our workforce and it starts with opportunities like this!

We were proud to support the second annual trades event, bringing local students together with industry professionals to explore hands-on career pathways in the skilled trades. Events like these help students discover rewarding careers, connect with employers, and gain real-world insight into industries that keep our communities growing.

A huge thank you to all the partners, educators, and businesses who invested their time to inspire the next generation of talent. The impact on our students and our region’s future workforce is tremendous.

Platteview High School alumni Kory Kuszak (Class of 2003) and Makenna Bidrowsky (Class of 2022) recently returned to help inspire students during Grow Sarpy’s Construction and Trades Day.

From welding demonstrations with M.U.D. to cutting-edge construction technology with MCL Construction, students had the opportunity to explore hands-on career pathways directly from alumni working in the industry today.

We love seeing Trojans come home and help open doors for the next generation!

Today, nearly 100 high school students came out to Grow Sarpy’s annual Construction and Trades Day at the Sarpy County Fairgrounds —joining a strong group of industry, education, and workforce partners for a day of hands-on learning.

Students rotated through interactive stations with contractors, unions, and community colleges, getting a real look at career pathways, training programs, and apprenticeship opportunities in the skilled trades.

Throughout the day, one thing was clear: creating early exposure and real connections with industry professionals is key to helping bridge the skills gap.

The impact went beyond the employers involved. Students walked away with new insights to help shape their futures and a better understanding of the wide range of opportunities in the trades. Educators also saw the value in students connecting with peers from other schools and engaging directly with industry partners.

Events like this make a difference—building awareness, strengthening our talent pipeline, and opening doors to high-demand careers right here in our region.

A big thank you to all the schools, employers, unions, and education partners who helped make the day a success!

We’re excited to highlight the impact this will have right here in our community.

This grant is a significant boost to our workforce and talent initiatives, especially as we continue growing programs like our Introduction to Construction & Safety Kits and, most importantly, Trades Day.

With Trades Day happening next week, we’ll be bringing together local high school students, construction companies, area colleges, and union partners for hands-on exposure to career pathways in the trades. It’s all about creating real connections, real opportunities, and a stronger talent pipeline for our region.

Opportunities like this help us keep building momentum, and we’re just getting started. Thank you, Meta, for selecting us as a grant recipient.
