Main Island Creek VFD

Main Island Creek VFD We are here to serve the communities of Main Island Creek by providing fire suppression, rescue, and fire prevention education.

The Main Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department was chartered on June 5, 1973 with a mission to combat fires on the watershed of Main Island Creek. Money to start the department was primarily raised through hot dog and bake sales and also through door to door campaigns. The Woman's Club of Omar have been vital in starting and the continual growth of the department. Through their money raising effo

rts, they purchased our first fire engine. The departments Board of Directors currently meet monthly on the second Monday. The fire department has operations personnel staffing allocations of 36 firefighters and 4 officers for a total of 40 positions. Additionally there are positions for 10 junior firefighters. Throughout the years, the department has continued to evolve and grow ensuring that it stays current with the newest technology and skills involved in providing fire protection and life saving skills.

Prayers for Jake.

đźš’ Community Prayer Request đźš’

On behalf of the members of Cora Volunteer Fire Department, we ask our community to come together in prayer for one of our own.

City of Logan Firefighter Jordan Evans’ son, Jake, will be undergoing major open-heart surgery tomorrow at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

The Evans family has always been there for others—offering comfort, support, and strength to those in need throughout our community. Now, it’s our turn to come together and be there for them.

We ask for:
🙏 Prayers for a successful surgery
🙏 Strength and comfort for Jake
🙏 Peace for his parents and family
🙏 Guidance for the doctors and medical team

The fire service is a family—and so is this community. Let’s lift Jake and the Evans family up with the same love and support they’ve shown so many others.

The Main Island Creek Vol. Fire Dept., along with members from the Cora Vol. Fire Dept. and the Verdunville Vol. Fire Dept. Received excellent training this evening courtesy of Thomas Miller and the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension.

Miller instructed thirty volunteers in the course entitled “H.I.P.P.A. for Fire and EMS”. The class deals with identifying, protecting, and disclosing Personally Identifiable Information for first response agencies.

Thank you to Tom Miller and the WVUFSE for continued support of our Logan County Fire Departments.

At 11:28 this morning, Main Island Creek VFD responded to a call which came through Mingo County 911 to Logan County 911 of a vehicle accident on Horsepen. While enroute, units were notified that Gilbert VFD and Baisden VFD had responded and were on scene advising the vehicle was on fire. Upon arrival of our first units, Gilbert VFD advised the fire was extinguished. Two individuals were assessed by Stat EMS and Leasa units then transported by Stat EMS to LRMC for treatment. We thank Gilbert VFD and Baisden VFD for continuing their response after noticing the fire was just outside their coverage area and quickly knocking the fire out. Units worked together to get things finished and cleared up. We are thankful for Gilbert VFD, Baisden VFD and Stat Ambulance. It’s all about protecting the people and property. The WV State Police is in charge of the investigation to the cause.

Newer smoke alarms have batteries that can last up to 10 years. You just need to check those this weekend but if you have an older one you need to change the batteries. (And any smoke alarm over 10 years old needs replaced!)

Rt. 44 is closed at this time due to a vehicle accident involving a power pole and low hanging lines between Knights Landing at Stirrat and approximately 1/2 South. AEP has been notified and there is no estimated time the road will be open. Please use alternate routes and drive with caution due to the condition of the roads. Thanks.

It is always a great time to make sure your property is ready for emergency responders! Over the last 12 months, we have damaged several pieces of equipment and parts of our apparatas responding to calls where unavoidable obsticlaes have been, trying to get to the scene!

Imagine if a fire truck or ambulance couldn't reach you due to narrow driveways, alleys, gates, low-hanging branches, accumulated snow or ice, or even unclear addresses! Let’s make sure first responders can get to you when every second counts!

TAKE THE INNITIATIVE, by HELPING US, HELP YOU!

🟢Clear Your Driveway, Alley, or Street: Trim any branches or remove obstacles that could block a fire engine. Make sure there's at least 12 feet of width and 13.5 feet of height clearance throughout the length of your driveway to allow access for emergency vehicles.
🟢If possible, clear snow and ice from drives and walkways. Assist those who may be sick and elderly especially.
🟢Allow for Maneuvering: If possible, create space for emergency vehicles to turn around on your property or in a section of your driveway.
🟢Have Your Address Visible: Check that your house number is displayed with reflective numbers and can be easily seen when coming from either side of the street
