The Night Before Bridge Opening

Twas the night before reopening, in Omro so bright, after twenty long days of detours and spite. The barrels stood empty, the cones packed away, as drivers all whispered, “Tomorrow's the day!"

The businesses waited with hopeful delight, for traffic returning by Saturday’s first light. The bridge over Fox River, battered by wear, was finally ready for travelers there.

The drivers all cheered, "No more country loops!" The locals rejoiced, "We survived all the hoops!" No circling through farmland, no extra commute, no GPS saying, "Proceed on your route..."

The orange signs vanished, the pavement looked clean, a sight that most residents thought they'd not seen. And out by the bridge as the sunset did glow, cars lined up early just eager to go.

Then up on the roadway there arose such a cheer, as the final crew shouted, "The opening is here!" The workers climbed down from the last flashing truck, while half of the town whispered, "Bout dang time, good luck!’

And Mayor and merchants and commuters alike, prepared for first crossings tomorrow at night.
No more twenty-minute detours to roam, at last Highway 21 would feel like home.

So here's to Omro, patient and strong,
who dealt with the closure for twenty days long.
May traffic move smoothly, may tempers stay light, and Merry Bridge Opening to all tomorrow night!

Disclaimer: The above is based on the projected timeline from the DOT announced on 5/28/26. Please continue following the official detour routes until project is officially complete and signage/barrels are removed.

Important Construction updates

05/28/2026

I apologize, I was still exhausted yesterday when posting and missed a few additional shout outs and thank yous!

A huge thank you to Linda & Mary for taking on the Memorial Day Processional lineup. Coordinating participants, timing, and logistics is a lot of work, and we truly appreciate everything you both did behind the scenes to help the day run smoothly.

Thank you as well to Omro Building Center for allowing our volunteers to use your parking lot throughout the day. Having that space made things so much easier for setup, coordination, and getting volunteers where they needed to be during a very busy weekend.

And of course, thank you to our Veterans. Memorial Day would not exist without the sacrifices made by so many brave men and women and their families. We are forever grateful to those who served, those who continue to serve, and especially those who gave their lives for our country. Because of your sacrifice, we are able to come together as a community and enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted. We honor and remember you not just on Memorial Day, but every single day.

Thank you all for helping make the day so special for our community ❤️

WOW. What a way to wrap up the 39th Annual Memorial Day Car Show & Craft Fair ❤️

Before anything else, thank you to everyone who gathered for the Memorial Day service. That moment is the heart of this day, and the respect shown by this community never goes unnoticed.

Now… 206 cars. In Omro. During construction.

Honestly, this event almost didn’t happen. There were a lot of conversations, late nights, and reworking logistics trying to figure out if we could pull this off this year. It took an incredible amount of teamwork, flexibility, and people refusing to let this event disappear, and because of that, we made it happen.

To our car guys and gals, THANK YOU. Thank you for showing up, being patient with the changes this year, and continuing to make this event what it is. Seeing 206 amazing vehicles lined throughout Omro was something special.

From beachy Volkswagens to dream worthy Corvettes to Mustangs that made me want to put the pedal down, the cars this year were absolutely incredible.

To the public, thank you for showing up, supporting our vendors and food trucks, visiting downtown businesses, and bringing such an amazing atmosphere to the day. And a reminder that our downtown businesses are OPEN, construction or not, and would love your support.

This year we introduced online car registration and the Kids Car Show, two things we’re really proud of and excited to continue building on in the future.

A very special thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, Generac. Your support helped make this event possible, and we are incredibly grateful for your investment in our community and this long standing Omro tradition ❤️

We also want to thank our amazing sponsors Crown Trophy #39, Ray's Sanitation, Omro Pharmacy, and Omro Chiropractic Center LLC for supporting this year’s event. Community support like yours is what keeps events like this alive and growing year after year.

A huge thank you to the Omro Rushford Volunteer Fire Department for allowing us to utilize your building this year, and especially to Jay for always answering my questions and helping us work through logistics every step of the way.

Thank you as well to the Omro Police Department and the City of Omrofor helping coordinate everything from road closures to traffic flow and helping us navigate construction. This event truly could not happen without all of you.

To our car parking crew, you absolutely kicked butt. Getting 206 cars parked, registered, organized, and lined up is no small task, and you made it look easy.

To our vendors and food trucks, thank you for your patience, flexibility, and kind words throughout the day while I ran around like an absolute crazy person trying to keep everything moving. I heard so many great comments from attendees all day long, and we’re so grateful you spent the day with us.

And now, to my Future Omro volunteer crew ❤️ Some of you gave up multiple days of your holiday weekend to make this happen, to say I am grateful for you, is an understatement.

Sam & Adam, my “truck gang,” thank you for running everywhere with me, parking cars, handling chaos, and helping keep me sane all day long.

Jamie & Shelly, thank you for helping organize everything, getting Behind the Bars ready first thing in the morning, and noticing what was needed before I even asked.

Beth, Lauren, Josh, other Josh, Hannah, Julie, Kelley, Ian, Tyler, and our Parks crew, thank you for jumping in wherever needed, whether it was grilling, Food Truck Alley, parking, cashiering, checking in, or simply helping keep things moving all day long.

I know I’m missing names, and I sincerely apologize if I missed anyone. Please know your help did not go unnoticed, and I am so incredibly grateful for every single person who volunteered their time to make this event happen.

The truth is, events like this don’t happen without volunteers. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, this is your sign. We would absolutely love to have you.

And finally, to my family, thank you for always being there, running alongside me, jumping in wherever needed, and reminding me to eat and drink water. I truly could not do any of this without you.

The 39th Annual Memorial Day Car Show & Craft Fair was one for the books because of every single one of you ❤️
