We have also been cleaning out and working on the downstairs.

This great room is spacious, bright and cheery — very elegant, and it just needs some paint and TLC. We will probably sand and refinish the perfect maple floor underneath. The high, plastered ceiling is still in great shape. The house sits on a firm foundation, and the rooms are just so welcoming.

And then there is the parlor. This room on the main level has us excited. Right now it is storing some things, and the woodwork is only partially stripped — but it will be the heartbeat of the home when completed. Once again, the tall doorways and huge windows are majestic, worthy of an elegant estate.

This is what we are working on right now.

The kitchen cabinets have been completely sanded down and refinished. The walls and ceiling are painted, and a new exterior door is installed, leading out to the mudroom and porch.

Next comes the flooring and the new lights. After that, the refrigerator, range and microwave go in along the opposite side.

Very spacious, for an apartment.

The bathroom is very nearly there.

The shower and stool are hooked up. The flooring is complete, and the ceiling lights and exhaust fan are working. The vanity and sink are working as well, and Seth put in those beautiful period-looking shelves. The hookups for a stacked washer and dryer are ready to go, and the painting, the door and the woodwork are all done.

What is left is the short list: the mirror, the vanity lights, and hooking up the heat register.

The second story is about 80% complete.

All of the walls and ceilings have been completely repaired, primed and painted. The new flooring is installed throughout. And the incredible baseboard and woodwork have been completely repaired, sanded and restored like the original in 1874 — not replaced, restored.

1️⃣ The northeast bedroom, with beautiful new ceiling fans and lights installed in the two north rooms.

2️⃣ Ultimately this will be the living room for the upper apartment. The walls and woodwork are finished, the ceiling fan is working, and the floor is done. That furniture will be moved into one of the two bedrooms.

3️⃣ The central hallway is nearly complete as well. It leads to the tower stairs and to the bathroom. We still need to install the stair door, put on the cold air register, and install the new light fixture.

Very exciting.

Sorry it has been so long since an update — but we have not been idle, and we have a great deal to show you.

This July, the Randy King family gathered for a reunion at the tower. Most of them are pictured here, several generations on the new steps, and everyone enjoyed seeing the tremendous progress on the restoration of this beautiful, historic landmark.

There is real progress to share now. Over the next several weeks we will walk you through the house room by room — what is finished, what is underway, and what is still ahead of us.

🔥 Furnace Update Inside the Omro Fox Tower

A huge thank you to Mike, our son-in-law, for getting the furnace tuned up and running more efficiently. Seth also installed a new condensate pump to keep everything draining properly.

Every upgrade like this helps stabilize the building’s core systems as restoration continues.

A brand-new water softener has been installed inside the Omro Fox Tower. This upgrade helps protect the plumbing system and supports the ongoing restoration work throughout the building.

🎨 Interior Wall Repair Underway

Work continues inside the Omro Fox Tower as interior walls are patched and prepped for fresh paint. This room is getting repaired section by section to stabilize the surface and get it ready for the next stage of restoration.

Every improvement, big or small, moves us closer to bringing this historic space back to life.

🧱 Masonry Repair Underway

Work continues high above the ground as the crew tackles masonry repairs beneath the 7th-floor windows of the Omro Fox Tower. This area has endured decades of exposure, and stabilizing the brickwork is an important part of preserving the structure for future restoration phases.

Every repair like this brings us one step closer to securing and saving this historic landmark.

🏗️ Tower Roof Resealed!

High above the top floor, Jalen and Tanner helped to tackle one of the most daunting projects yet—resealing the top of the Omro Fox Tower. The old roof was cracked and deteriorated (see the “before” photos!), but after days of hard work, it’s now sealed tight and ready to endure Wisconsin’s seasons.
