🚨Over the past few years the Ona Speedway 🏁 has provided a special race day for our fire department to hold “Fire Day at the Speedway.”🔥

We are changing things up a tad this year by taking a year off of the dunking booth. However, we will hold a 🍪 bake sale, 🎟️ 50/50 raffle, a couple carnival style games and an obstacle course for the kids. We will have prizes for the first 100 kids (or more😉) and 🚒 fire apparatus and equipment display.

🚨🚨Wanna see what our next big purchase is for the Ona VFD, stop and ask us, we are very excited to share. This one change will make the services and response to calls a complete game changer for the community of Ona, the Ona VFD fire district, along with neighboring service areas.

Bring the kids, 🏎️ watch the races, 🍪 grab some sweets 🧁, hit the 🍕concessions/food trucks and the 🍋lemonade/ice cream 🍦truck!

💡🔦We will be selling various light up toys, bring a few extra bucks and let’s light up the stands, and pits! 🔦💡

Hope to see ya at the races!

We would like to extend our appreciation to McDonald’s at the Barboursville Mall and Godfather’s Pizza/Little General in Ona, for the food donations during yesterday’s structure fire in Milton. Several men and women worked countless hours in the excessive heat fighting a structure fire on Trenol Height, and your donations were taken directly to the scene to help replenish and restore energy, and empty stomachs. Never knowing when a call may come in or the last time one might have had food, these are essential to the first responders to help keep their bodies nourished and going.
Thank you!

If you know employees that work there, please tag them, show the appreciation, visit these food establishments, support local businesses.

Over the last few weeks our members have been attending classes and learning a great deal of information on what to watch for on the scene of structure fires, that could potentially be arson related. We are thankful for the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Investigation Division for the Arson Awareness class and Anatomy of a Fire Call. We will continue to host additional arson education classes with our members, exciting things continuing to come.
Thank you WV State Fire Marshal office!

We would like to extend our appreciation while on a call last week with other volunteer agencies. After clearing a call, we were ask to stand by in the Barboursville area, until they could clear up. As many know this is normal, and we are always ready to help out where we are needed.
However, while on stand by, some employees and management staff at Kroger (Barboursville - Rt 60) walked out and provided our members cold bottled water. It may not seem like much to some, but with those temps and the humidity, the water was greatly appreciated and we are thankful for your generosity.

THANK YOU!

After much hard work and saving from multiple avenues, the department has purchased 16 sets of new PPE pants and coats. Keeping life, safety, and protection a top priority, we are thankful and blessed to have been able to add 16 sets of Viking Turnout Gear for our members. This purchase includes 12 sets of "Warrior" (male design) and 4 sets of "Valkyrie" (female design), customized to fit each member.
NFPA 1851 specifies that the firefighter protective ensemble or ensemble components must be retired from service no more than 10 years from the date the ensemble or ensemble component was manufactured – the date it was manufactured, not the date it was placed in service. This purchase keeps our active members in 1 set of up to date gear, as we slowly replace the components necessary for them to serve the Ona Volunteer Fire Department district, and any area surrounding that needs assistance.
Keeping business at home, we had the assistance of purchasing our gear through All American Fire Equipment, with the assistance of Ian Kelsey in equipment sales, and Megan Walker at Viking Turnout Gear.

We thank you, the community, for always supporting our fund raising efforts, as we are always trying to improve and upgrade to better serve and protect each life, and every home.

Feel free to stop by the station to check out the apparatus, gear, equipment, or just for a visit. If you have a question about if someone will be there, just message us. We will do our best to make sure to have a member around to chat, show you around, answer questions, or let the kids climb around the trucks.

We were missing a few on this day, but they are excited to have the gear and you will see them out.

There are lots of newer firefighters in our area. Whether we go to the roof or are just interior, let’s keep this lesson in mind!
