A huge thank you to our small but incredible community of friends and neighbors for helping make another successful Fisherman’s Breakfast possible! 🎣🍳

Your continued support, donations, and turnout truly mean so much to all of us at Oneco Fire Co.

We would also like to give a special shoutout to our amazing local supporters:

• Weidele's Pizza for ordering, prepping, and donating our sausage and bacon. And for always supporting our department in numerous ways.

• Baker's Dozen for the generous donut donation🍩

• Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm for their continued donations and unwavering support of our department.

•Falls Creek Farm for their continued donations and unwavering support of our department.

Lastly, we want to recognize all of our dedicated members who worked extremely hard today. After wrapping up breakfast, crews immediately responded mutual aid to Voluntown Fire Department for a vehicle fire, and shortly after extinguished multiple brush fires in our area.

Over the past week, we have worked several brush fires alongside Voluntown Fire Department, showing just how important strong mutual aid partnerships are in protecting our communities.

🔥 Reminder to everyone: Fire danger is currently VERY HIGH. Please be sure to check the daily fire danger level before doing any outdoor burning, and use extreme caution with anything that could create a spark.

Thank you again to everyone who supports our department and helps keep our community strong. ❤️🚒

At approximately 12:30 hrs on April 9th, Oneco Fire Co. was dispatched mutual aid to Voluntown for a shed fire with possible exposures. Crews responded quickly to assist with fire suppression and help protect nearby structures from extension.

With the very high fire danger conditions we are experiencing right now, especially with the strong winds, this is an important reminder to use extreme caution with any outdoor burning. Even what seems like a small or manageable fire can spread rapidly in these conditions.

🔥 Before lighting any brush pile or debris fire, please check the daily fire danger level first.
Wind-driven fires can quickly threaten woods, fields, sheds, homes, and neighboring properties.

Please help keep our community safe by taking extra precautions and postponing burning when conditions are unfavorable.

With the warmer weather arriving and the snow finally melting, many people are eager to get outside and start their spring cleanup. This often means burning brush piles and leaves around the yard.

Before lighting any outdoor fires, please take a moment to check the daily fire danger level and use extra caution.

Even when a fire seems small, dry conditions can cause it to spread quickly and unexpectedly.

⚠️ Fire danger can increase due to:
• Dry leaves and brush on the ground
• Low humidity
• Windy conditions
• Several days without rain
• Warm temperatures and sunshine
• Unattended burn piles

🧯 Safety reminders before burning:
• Always check the local fire danger level first
• Follow all town and state burning regulations
• Never burn on windy days
• Keep a hose, water source, or shovel nearby
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Fully extinguish the fire when finished
• Avoid burning near woods, dry grass, or structures
• If the fire gets out of control, call 911 immediately

Remember — even a small spark can turn into a wildfire under the right conditions.

As Smokey the Bear says, “Only you can prevent wildfires.” 🐻

Stay safe and help protect our community!

❄️ Winter Training Underway ❄️

On this snowy evening, members of the Oneco Fire Company trained on establishing a draft from iced-over ponds, including safely cutting through the ice to access a water source. With limited hydrants in our district, our department relies on drafting from ponds to supply water during fire incidents—even in freezing conditions. Training like this ensures we’re always prepared to protect our community, no matter the weather. 🚒🔥

Training night in Oneco!
Tonight our crew took on a chimney fire simulation using our newly built training prop. Members drilled on ladder placement, ladder safety, chimney fire tactics, and roof saw operations to keep our skills sharp and ready.

Big shoutout to the team that also retrieved an old dry hydrant in town — we’ll be giving it new life this spring at a relocated site.

Proud of our members and the work they put in every week! 🔥🚒

Thank you Jordan Sawmill for donating the lumber to build the new prop
