05/11/2026

During National Police Week, we honor the men and women of law enforcement who serve their communities with courage, professionalism, and dedication each day. We also pause to remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

First established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, this week serves as a time of remembrance, gratitude, and reflection for agencies and communities across the nation.

Today, we recognize not only the officers who continue to serve, but also the families who stand beside them through every shift, call, and sacrifice.

To all law enforcement officers, past and present, thank you for your commitment to protecting and serving your communities.

Please join us this week in honoring those who serve, and remembering those we have lost.

05/01/2026

This morning, Oneida High School students participated in a Mock DWI Crash Demonstration, just ahead of prom and graduation season. This event is designed to give students a realistic look at the devastating consequences that can result from impaired or distracted driving, and the lasting impact these crashes have on victims, families, friends, and entire communities.

Throughout the demonstration, students witnessed the response that follows a serious crash scene, including emergency medical care, rescue operations, law enforcement investigation, and the emotional aftermath faced by loved ones. While this scenario was simulated, the message behind it is very real.

As students prepare to celebrate milestones like prom and graduation, we want them to remember that one poor decision can change lives forever. Choosing not to drive impaired, avoiding distractions behind the wheel, wearing a seatbelt, and speaking up when a friend is about to make an unsafe choice can save lives.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped make this important educational event possible. These demonstrations require extensive planning, coordination, and cooperation between many agencies and volunteers, and we are very grateful for the time and effort each participant dedicated to helping deliver this message to students.

A huge thank you to:
• Oneida City School District
• Oneida Fire Department
• Vineall Ambulance Services
• Mercy Flight
• Ironside Funeral Home
• Madison County District Attorney’s Office
• Rocker's Automotive Rescue
• Police Department Chaplains Dr. Jack Fucci and Fr. Chris Ballard
• Oneida High School Drama Club and faculty

We hope today’s demonstration leaves a lasting impression and encourages students to continue making safe, responsible decisions behind the wheel long after these celebrations have passed.
