Officers Quick and Young will now begin the Oneonta Police Department's intensive field training program. This program, administered by certified Field Training Officers (FTOs), requires approximately 12 to 14 weeks of additional training following their 560 hours of basic instruction at the academy.

We are confident that Officers Quick and Young will uphold our mission to provide competent and professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Oneonta.

The Oneonta Police Department is proud to announce that we have been awarded the competitive $50,000 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant through ADECA. These funds will be used to replace an aging patrol vehicle that is no longer practical to maintain.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to ADECA for their review and approval of this award. We also want to thank Representative David Standridge for his continued support of Blount County, as well as Senator Tuberville’s office for providing a letter of support during the application process.

This new vehicle will help the Oneonta Police Department continue to provide professional and competent law enforcement services to our community.

On today’s date, 2/28/2026, the Blount County SRT team is conducting a training exercise utilizing the Oneonta City School’s building and grounds. This is a routine training exercise to build proficiency in building clearing and response to active shooter events. This exercise has absolutely nothing to do with immigration enforcement or any relationship to ICE. We reiterate this is a routine training exercise, it is not associated with immigration enforcement or any federal law enforcement agency. Thank you.

The Oneonta Police Department was honored to recognize the heroic, life-saving actions of two citizens at last night’s council meeting.

Darlene Williams and Samantha Bolt each received a certificate of appreciation and a proclamation from the City of Oneonta for their gallant act of performing early CPR on a member of our community. Please join us in thanking Ms. Williams and Ms. Bolt for their knowledge, skill, and selflessness.

We are constantly reminded of how fortunate we are to live, work, and serve in this community.

Good morning,

The Oneonta Police Department is pleased to formally welcome two new recruits: Bryon Quick and Benjamin Young. Both men will be attending the January session of the Northeast Alabama Police Academy.

You may recognize Bryon and Benjamin, as they have both served as reserve officers with the department for some time. They have volunteered their time to attend required training, assist with events, and actively learn by riding with our Field Training Officers.

Both have successfully completed the APOSTC physical ability and agility course, psychological screening, and an aptitude test. Bryon Quick holds a degree in computer science and has displayed exceptional character. Benjamin Young is a graduate of Oneonta High School and a member of the United States Army, carrying on the dual role of serving his community and nation alike, as do several of our current officers.

We are confident that they will display professionalism and competence in the commission of their duties and wish them the best of luck in their upcoming academy session.
