{THIS IS AN OLD POST}

[MON 1PM] It's a hot one today! The heat and humidity are combining to bring us the chance for a line of strong storms to move through around 3:30-4:30pm this afternoon...

This activity has a history of damaging winds and torrential rain in the Chicago area causing near-zero visibility, along with frequent deadly lightning. Continue to closely monitor the sky (and this page) for updates through the day.

Once the line moves out around 5-6pm then we're done for the day.

[TUE 10:15PM] A very long line of storms runs from near Saginaw, north of Grand Rapids, and into northern Illinois and it's all moving our way over the next few hours.

Any of these storms could have hail and high winds, and as mentioned this morning a brief tornado is not out of the question. Given the intensity of the rain, flooding is a significant concern as well.

If you are headed to bed before the storms hit, MAKE SURE that your phone is charged and NEAR YOU just in case you need to be waken up by an alert.

When it comes to notifications, having multiple LAYERS saves LIVES!

Due to rain being in the area this afternoon and the chance for lightning, plus a successful test for the statewide drill last month, we're canceling today's siren test to avoid any confusion.

[THU 1PM] Stop me if you've heard this before... Another warmup today comes with a line of thunderstorms later this evening! Fortunately the worst will once again stay to our south, but heavy rain, frequent lightning, and some wind gusts could move through after 8pm.

We dry out tomorrow but - and stop me if you've heard this before - another round of showers and thunderstorms moves in Friday night into Saturday.

Cadet Training Today on Engine 1261

Earlier this afternoon our cadets spent time getting hands-on with Engine 1261 as part of their ongoing training. The group reviewed a variety of equipment carried on the engine and discussed proper operation, safety considerations, and real-world applications.

Topics covered included:

Types and uses of fire extinguishers

Chain saw operations

Basic hand tools

Vehicle extrication equipment

Cadets in attendance were O. Grove, N. Willson, along with Firefighter C. Sampson, Lieutenant J. Buttleman, and Captain R. Maiville assisting with the training. Cadet A Buttleman and Cadet J. Messner are not pictured.

Great work by everyone involved as these future firefighters continue building the skills and knowledge needed to serve the community safely and effectively.
