🚒 Preparing Today for Tomorrow's Wildfires 🚒

As wildfire season approaches, Ontario Fire & Rescue wants our community to know that your firefighters are already preparing for the challenges ahead.

Long before the first wildfire, our crews spend countless hours training, reviewing tactics, maintaining equipment, practicing scenarios, and improving communications 💪

Wildfires don't just threaten lands, they threaten homes, businesses, schools, infrastructure, and entire communities. That's why preparation is so important.

The public may not always see the training that happens behind the scenes, but those hours spent doing drills and in the classroom help our firefighters be ready when the call comes 🤝🚒

As we head into what could be a difficult fire season, know that your firefighters are preparing now to protect lives, property, and our community.

🔥 One spark can change everything. Let's all do our part to prevent human-caused wildfires this summer.

🔥🚫 A burn ban is now in effect for the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District.

Outdoor burning, including burn barrels, is prohibited during this time.

⚠️ Anyone starting fires in violation of the burn ban, or using illegal fireworks that result in a fire district response, may be responsible for suppression costs and damages.

On June 15, 2026, at approximately 7:05 PM, Ontario Fire & Rescue was dispatched to Laurel Drive, in the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District, for a report of two back yards on fire.

105 (command/crew of one) and Engine 103 (crew of two) responded. While in route, a general page was requested, calling in all available part time on-call and off-duty staff. Brush 156 (crew of one) responded soon after non-code. 105 arrived to find vegetation burning along the west side of three residential properties, with no structures threatened. An additional brush engine (crew of three) and water tender (crew of two) responded to help with suppression.

Crews stopped the fire spread and contained the fire at less than 0.25 acres. There were no injuries to people or animals, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The City of Ontario Burn Ban will go into effect on Friday, June 12, 2026, and remain in effect through September 30, 2026.

🚫 Outdoor burning, including burn barrels, is prohibited within the City of Ontario during this period.

⚠️ Please remember: Individuals who start fires in violation of the burn ban, or who use illegal fireworks that result in a fire department response, may be held responsible for suppression costs and property damage.

The 2026 wildfire season is shaping up to be a challenging one.

This past winter was one of the warmest on record, leaving Oregon with a historically low snowpack and drought conditions across the state. Forecasts are predicting warmer than normal temperatures and below average rainfall, increasing wildfire risk across the state ☀️

The good news? Your fire department is preparing now. We continue to invest in wildfire preparedness, risk reduction, and emergency response capabilities. This helps our firefighters be ready when our community needs us most 🚒

But wildfire preparedness isn't just the responsibility of firefighters. It starts at home 🏡

✔️ Create defensible space around your home
✔️ Remove dry vegetation and other fuels
✔️ Keep roofs and gutters clear of debris
✔️ Have an evacuation plan and emergency kit ready
