We’re in a mood with this frame in the hangar.

Yes, we shoot film! It’s been 3 years since we first found our film camera and our AuxPA says he is having a blast going back to photography basics!!

On a more serious note, it is now hurricane season, please check your supplies and review your plans.

We’re excited to share this recent arrival to our archive with you!!

This 1963 photo out of Dinner Key is one of a handful of photos of our HU-16E Albatross in the water, so we are thrilled to add this to our collection. The others are in the Smithsonian archive, but are available for viewing.

Our External Affairs Department continues to locate, preserve and share these historic images with you as part of an ongoing project spearheaded by our Auxiliary Public Affairs Specialist/unit historian.

Please check in regularly for more historic photos and videos.

We pause to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the invasion of Normandy and honor all those who fought and died on day.

We also want to recognize the Coast Guard’s crucial involvement in the operation. While we were home protecting our shores from roving bands of U-Boats, our shipmates were braving defensive fire and mines to deliver and rescue soldiers during this operation.

Rescue Flotilla 1 rescued nearly 500 Allied personnel
on 6 June 1944. During the “first hours” of
the D-Day assault, they rescued 194 off
Omaha Beach, 157 off Utah and 133 off Gold,
Juno & Sword. In total during the flotilla’s
Normandy service they rescued 1,438 during the operation.

Let’s step back in time to 1985! You’ve got Dire Straits blasting in the hangar as you await the first new Aerospatiale HH-65A to arrive from the final assembly facility in Grand Prairie, Texas. You could hear it before it appears, the distinctive Fenestron whine paired with the sound of the Lycoming turboshaft engines.

Lucky for the unit, there was a Public Affairs specialist on the ramp waiting to document this aircraft’s arrival and to take photos of both the H-52 and HH-65 together on the ramp.

For reasons unknown to us, these were never published until our Auxiliary Public Affairs Specialist discovered them tucked away as part of a large collection of negatives in a closet two and a half years ago.

Recognizing their age and the existing damage to the fragile negatives, the External Affairs Department advocated for the preservation and digitization of the photos and videos discovered in this historic find. Thanks to that department, we can share our history with you!!

And hurricane season begins!!!

June 1st marks the official start of Hurricane Season and concludes on November 30th. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration () outlook has between 8-14 named storms due to a predicted below-normal season attributed to specific climate patterns.
This does not mean you can let your guard down, all it takes is one storm to cause significant impact to an area. Review your emergency plans and check on your supplies before peak season later this summer and fall.

Be sure to follow our friends at and the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Recreational Boating Safety experts at for more information about hurricane and severe storm preparedness tips this summer!

As for us, we continue to be Semper Paratus through our training to respond to those in need in any situation.

Precision training builds operational readiness!

We recently teamed up with Station Fort Lauderdale for underway Helo Ops, taking advantage of moderate seas to sharpen our joint rescue skills. Exercises like these ensure that when a real-world search and rescue call comes in, our aviation and surface crews operate as a single, seamless team.

We want to thank for hosting our AuxPA so we can document our work. We look forward to future exercises!

With an extremely cold winter back home, our friends at 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron returned for annual winter training in sunny South Florida. Utilizing our contract boat, they were able to practice and hone their skills while working in paradise.

A special thank you is in order to the crew of Tiger 422 for letting us document your training evolutions, more to come!
