Mayor Eddie Smith and our Opelika Economic Development team recently had the opportunity to attend Taste of Seoul, hosted by Mr. Michael Park, President of Yongsan Automotive USA.

The special event brought together friends and partners from Auburn University Outreach to experience Korean culture through small bites, street food, traditional tea, sweets and more.

Thank you to Mr. Park and everyone involved for a wonderful evening celebrating food, culture and connection!

UPDATE: Roads are now open.

🚧 ROADWORK NOTICE 🚧. Public Works crews will be working on Pleasant Drive to repair a manhole on the morning of Thursday, August 20. Thru traffic will be detoured as outlined, and residential traffic will be guided by on-site personnel. All motorists are encouraged to use caution and be mindful of workers and equipment in the area. Your patience is appreciated. This disruption is expected to last only a few hours, with normal traffic patterns resuming by lunch.

🚨 ROAD CLOSURE ALERT 🚨

The 5th Street between North Railroad and South Railroad will be closed Friday, August 14th from 8 AM until Noon to allow our crews to freshly paint the bridge. Please take alternate routes and use caution while in the area!

Power outage update!

⚡ POWER OUTAGE UPDATE #2 ⚡

We are currently aware of two separate outages in our service area:

🔌 Fox Run Pkwy / Jordan’s Gate / Covenant Dr. & surrounding areas
Approximately 100 customers are currently without power.

🔌 S. Uniroyal Rd. / Columbus Pkwy area
Approximately 200 customers are currently without power.

Our crews have been notified and will be dispatched as soon as it is safe to do so.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our team works to respond safely and restore power as quickly as possible.

⚠️ Please use caution in affected areas and treat all downed power lines as energized.

We will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

TRAFFIC ALERT: I85 Near Exit 62

4:30 PM: The roadways are clear and traffic is flowing.

Traffic on I-85 near Exit 62 is backing up due to a fallen tree and a vehicle crash . The right lane southbound is currently blocked while crews work to clear the fallen tree. Please use caution and expect delays. Multiple traffic lights are out throughout Opelika due to the storm. Please remember if you approach a traffic light that is not operational it should be used as a four-way stop. This is also impacting traffic along Gateway Drive in Tiger Town. Please expect delays and use caution when traveling through the area.
