We’re excited to welcome Auburn University IMPACT students back to the Community Market of East Alabama for the fall semester!

IMPACT serves as Auburn’s central source for service, offering students meaningful opportunities to volunteer with local nonprofits, serve with teams during academic breaks, and participate in major days of service throughout the year.

We are especially grateful for our weekly Tuesday volunteers, who help with our Food Bank deliveries and so many other important tasks at the Market. Their time, energy, and dedication make a difference in our ability to serve our community.

Welcome back, IMPACT! We’re so glad to have you with us!

Mr. L reached out to us seeking assistance, sharing his concerns as an 80-year-old resident of a mobile home. Nearly all of his Social Security checks go towards his mortgage and utilities each month, leaving him with barely enough for essentials. He said he’s never needed help, but rising utility and grocery costs have pushed him to seek support.

Despite recently being approved for Medicaid and having a food card through Humana, Mr. L still finds it challenging to make ends meet. During our conversation, he conveyed a heartfelt desire for relief, saying that any assistance would significantly lighten his burden.

We were able to guide him through the process of applying for SNAP over the phone, which gave him hope. Additionally, we introduced him to the LIHEAP program, which he had not previously heard of. Learning that he could receive help with his electric and gas bills a few times a year excited him. He expressed deep gratitude for the ease of completing both applications from the comfort of his home, feeling a renewed sense of optimism about managing his expenses.

If you or someone you know requires assistance, we are here to help. Give us a call at 877-833-2550 or go to www.benefitsenrollmentcenter.org

What a wonderful visit!

We were thrilled to welcome the Opelika Young Professionals for a tour of our facility. Their interest in learning more about our mission means so much to our team and the families we serve.

We’re also excited about OYP’s food collection efforts in support of healthy meal kits. This partnership with Extension has been such a meaningful project, and the ready‑to‑make meal packages continue to be a great resource for families in our community. We truly appreciate OYP’s commitment to helping strengthen this work.

Thank you again for your support and for highlighting the impact our organization strives to make each day.

Welcome back!

Wednesdays are always brighter thanks to the wonderful students from Opelika High School’s Transition/Life Skills Class!

Each week, they show up ready to serve, learn, and lend a hand wherever needed. Their positive attitudes, teamwork, and willingness to jump in make a difference in so many ways.

During their time with us, they’ve built confidence, learned valuable life skills, and prepared for the future—and it has been a joy to watch them grow.

We are so thankful for the heart, energy, and dedication they bring to the Community Market and our community. We’re so happy to have them back and look forward to another great year together!
