Last evening, the City of Opelousas Parks and Recreation Department hosted its 1st Annual Little League Baseball and Softball Awards Banquet at the Yambilee Building.

The success of any youth program begins with the people who make it possible. I want to personally recognize and congratulate our boys and girls on a successful season, and thank the parents, coaches, volunteers, and sponsors who supported them along the way. Last night was about celebrating our young athletes and recognizing their hard work, growth, and accomplishments.

This is only the beginning of what we envision for our Little League program and all of the youth programs offered through Opelousas Parks and Recreation. We want to continue creating opportunities and experiences that our young people and their families can be proud of.

It was also an honor to welcome several UL baseball and professional players who joined us for the evening. A special thank you to University of Louisiana at Lafayette Head Baseball Coach Matt Deggs for taking the time to speak to our young athletes. Having individuals who have achieved success in the sport encourage our children and share their experiences made the evening even more special.

I also want to recognize Walter Guillory for spearheading this event, along with Parks and Recreation Supervisor Marcus Bluitt and Parks and Recreation Director Chris Rideaux for their leadership and support.

When we collaborate, support one another, and keep our young people at the center of what we do, we can create great things for Opelousas.

Congratulations again to all of our Little League baseball and softball players on a great season. I look forward to seeing this program continue to grow.

Mayor Julius Alsandor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Opelousas Announces Scheduled Water Line Repair at Bullard and Julia Streets

Opelousas, LA, August 18, 2026 – The City of Opelousas Public Works Department will perform a scheduled water line repair at Bullard and Julia Streets on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the City's water infrastructure.

To allow crews to safely complete the work, Bullard Street will be temporarily closed to traffic from Bellevue Street to Grolee Street. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes while repairs are underway.

During the repair, customers in the surrounding area may experience low water pressure, temporary interruptions in water service, or water discoloration. These conditions are expected to be temporary while crews complete the necessary work.

City crews will work diligently to complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible, restore normal water service, and reopen the roadway.

The City of Opelousas appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and motorists as this necessary work is completed.

For additional information, please contact the City of Opelousas Public Works Department at **337-948-2550**.
