πΎ IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ST. LANDRY PARISH RESIDENTS πΎ
If you live in St. Landry Parish and have a dog that you would like Street Dawgs Animal Rescue to consider taking into our rescue and helping place in a new home, there is a specific process that MUST be followed.
β οΈ PLEASE READ ALL STEPS BEFORE CONTACTING ANIMAL CONTROL OR MAKING ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE DOG.
Street Dawgs Animal Rescue is a nonprofit rescue organization. We are NOT a government-funded animal control facility. We operate through donations, volunteers, foster homes, adoption fees, and the generosity of people who support our mission.
Our role is to help save adoptable dogs from homelessness and euthanasia and place them into safe, loving homes.
πΆ STEP 1 β REQUEST APPROVAL FROM STREET DAWGS FIRST
DO NOT begin this process assuming Street Dawgs will automatically be able to accept the dog.
π± TEXT STREET DAWGS: 702-703-1234
Please send ALL of the following information:
πΎ Your full name
π Your address
π Your phone number
πΈ Clear pictures of the dog
π Approximate age
βοΈβοΈ S*x
βοΈ Approximate weight
β€οΈ A description of the dogβs temperament
π How the dog behaves around other dogs
π¨βπ©βπ§ How the dog behaves around people
Please allow up to 24 hours for a response.
Street Dawgs must review and APPROVE THE REQUEST BY TEXT MESSAGE before you proceed with the surrender process.
π¨ IMPORTANT: Street Dawgs does NOT accept dogs that are aggressive toward people or other dogs.
Dogs with aggression or dangerous behavioral issues are the responsibility of St. Landry Parish Animal Control, not Street Dawgs Animal Rescue.
Receiving an approval from Street Dawgs means that, based on the information you provided, we are willing to accept the dog AFTER the remaining requirements below have been completed.
ποΈ STEP 2 β CONTACT ST. LANDRY PARISH ANIMAL CONTROL
ONLY AFTER receiving approval from Street Dawgs, contact:
π ST. LANDRY PARISH ANIMAL CONTROL: 337-948-6184
Animal Control may tell you that their facility is full. Unfortunately, shelters and animal control facilities frequently operate at capacity.
That does not necessarily mean they cannot assist you with the required veterinary services.
If you are a St. Landry Parish resident, ask about getting the dog scheduled for the veterinary services required before Street Dawgs can accept the dog.
The dog must be:
βοΈ Spayed or neutered
π Current on rabies vaccination with documentation
You may need to continue keeping the dog safely in your possession while those services are completed.
β€οΈ STEP 3 β COMPLETE THE VETTING & CONTACT STREET DAWGS
Once the dog has been spayed/neutered and has its current rabies vaccination and documentation, text Street Dawgs again at 702-703-1234.
Provided the dog was previously approved by us and continues to meet our behavioral requirements, we can then arrange to take the dog into Street Dawgs and begin working toward finding it a loving home.
To qualify, the dog must be:
β€οΈ People-friendly
π Dog-friendly
π« Non-aggressive
π Current on required rabies vaccination
βοΈ Spayed or neutered

β WHY DO WE REQUIRE THIS PROCESS?
Government-funded animal control facilities exist in part to provide services for the residents and animals within their jurisdiction.
Street Dawgs does not receive that same government funding.
Properly preparing just one dog for adoption can cost a nonprofit rescue hundreds of dollars in veterinary expenses. Multiply that by dozens or hundreds of dogs, and it becomes financially impossible for a donation-funded rescue to absorb every expense when government-funded resources are available to help.
We want to help your dog β but we have to do it responsibly.
Unless the person surrendering the dog is prepared to personally cover the required veterinary expenses, St. Landry Parish residents must utilize the veterinary resources available through their parish before Street Dawgs can take possession of the dog.
This isnβt about passing responsibility.
Itβs about everybody doing their part.
π YOU keep the dog safe while the process is completed.
ποΈ ST. LANDRY PARISH provides the veterinary resources available to its residents.
β€οΈ STREET DAWGS accepts approved, adoptable dogs after the requirements are completed and works to find them loving homes.
