SPOTLIGHT MEMBER OF THE WEEK - LOU-GEE LAWSON!!
Some people walk through our doors and become members. Others walk through our doors and become part of the heart of our center. Lou-Gee is definitely one of those people.
Lou-Gee has been a member of our center for four years. Her story with us began during a tender and difficult time. After losing her father, Lou-Gee and her mother, Ida, were left trying to navigate the emptiness that comes when someone you love so deeply is no longer there. Lou-Gee found her way to our center during that time. She came just as much for her mother as she did for herself. She wanted Ida to have somewhere to go, people to be around, and something to look forward to. That decision tells you so much about Lou-Gee's heart.
Lou-Gee doesn't just participate in a few things at the center, she participates in ALL of it! From activities and classes to trips and fellowship, she is always ready to join in. When asked to name her favorite activity, she had a hard time choosing because there are so many she enjoys. But after much thought, she finally settled on line dancing!
One of the things we love most about Lou-Gee is the way she enters our doors. She comes in with a huge smile and hugs for everyone. Her joy is contagious, and her presence has a way of making people feel welcomed, loved and at home.
Lou-Gee's love for her family and her faith run deep. She and Donnie have been married for more than 23 years, and together they have three children and three grandchildren who mean the world to her. She is also a devoted member of her church, and her faith is an important part of who she is.
Lou-Gee likes to say that she has three families: her home family, her church family and her center family. She also says that she is currently living the most favorite phase of her life.
She has a special love for the water, the beach, the lake, the pool… if there's water, Lou-Gee is happy!
Her life has taken her to many places, from here to California and several places in between. Along the way, she has worn many hats, which include working as a teacher's aide for multi-handicapped children, an office manager and a truck driver. One of her dreams was to be a race car driver, although she hasn't done so.... yet!
Lou-Gee, thank you for being the caring, joyful person that you are. Thank you for the hugs, the smiles, the laughter, the dancing and, most of all, the love you pour into our center and the people around you.
