The Oradell PBA would like to recognize the incredible response to last night’s events.
At approximately 7:50 p.m. on the Fourth of July, Oradell was struck by one of the most severe storms we’ve experienced in years. Within minutes, powerful winds and torrential rain caused widespread damage throughout town.
As calls for service began pouring in, a request for additional officers went out. Without hesitation, members of the PBA left their families, holiday celebrations, and personal plans to respond. Sixteen officers came in to assist, handling more than 200 calls for service in just three hours. Our dispatch desk, overwhelmed with nonstop emergency calls, was staffed by three officers, including one currently out on injury who still came in to help because of the magnitude of the incident.
With the entire region impacted, outside resources were extremely limited.
We would also like to recognize the Oradell Fire Department members once again went above and beyond for their neighbors. While assisting River Edge with house fires, the remaining crews continued responding to emergency calls throughout Oradell, helping residents and working alongside our officers under extremely challenging conditions.
Oradell Emergency Management was nothing short of exceptional. From coordinating with the Red Cross, assessing downed power lines, organizing resources, and coordinating resident assistance, they worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our response organized and effective.
Our Department of Public Works also mobilized quickly, clearing blocked roadways and removing trees that were not entangled with power lines, allowing emergency responders to reach those in need more efficiently.
It will take days, if not weeks, for our community to fully recover from the damage left behind. But we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the dedication, professionalism, and selflessness of every individual who played a part in protecting Oradell last night.
Thank you to everyone who answered the call. Oradell is stronger because of you.
