🚨 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲...

The numbers may be different in Sioux County, but the message remains the same:

With the start of the new fiscal year right around the corner, I want to begin a new public education campaign regarding local emergency management. This is the first in this year-long series.

🚨 WHO IS PROTECTING WINNESHIEK COUNTY?
Every Day, Our Community Relies On:

🔥 7 Volunteer Fire Departments

Approximately 175 volunteer firefighters

👮 3 Law Enforcement Agencies

Approximately 25 law enforcement personnel

🚑 1 Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service

Staffing 2 ambulances 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

🩺 Approximately 60 Volunteer Medical First Responders

📱 1 Emergency Manager

That one emergency manager is responsible for coordinating preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation, training, exercises, disaster declarations, grant management, emergency planning, warning systems, public information, damage assessments, resource coordination, and support for every jurisdiction in Winneshiek County, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

✅ 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝗪𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱

After deleting 𝟯𝟬𝟬+ 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 (and admittedly getting a few laughs out of some of them 😄), we've been working closely with our vendor to identify and correct the issue that was causing weather alerts to post automatically to this page.

The vendor believes the problem has now been resolved, and weather alerts should once again be posting normally.

This also serves as a good reminder: 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Don't rely on a single source for critical alerts. Consider using a combination of:

🌬️ WIND ADVISORY ISSUED FOR SIOUX COUNTY (Wednesday from 1:00 PM --> 9:00 PM) 🌬️

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Sioux County from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday.

💨 Expected Conditions:
• Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph
• Wind gusts up to 50 mph

⚠️ Potential Impacts:
• Unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around
• Tree limbs could be damaged or blown down
• Isolated power outages are possible
• Difficult travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles such as semis, pickups with trailers, campers, and farm equipment

🚨 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗣𝗥 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 🚨

In the past month, Sioux County Dispatch has handled 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 where CPR was started before EMS arrived.

The result? 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱.

These incidents are a powerful reminder that 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗣𝗥 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. Whether through prior CPR training or instructions provided by a dispatcher, immediate action made all the difference.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Sioux County and much of northwest Iowa until 3:00 AM Wednesday morning.

⚠️ Conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing:
🌪️ Tornadoes
💨 Damaging winds
🧊 Large hail
⛈️ Frequent lightning

Now is a great time to:
✅ Review your severe weather safety plan
✅ Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight
✅ Charge your phone and weather radios
✅ Be prepared to move to shelter quickly if a warning is issued

Remember: A watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather. A warning means severe weather is occurring or imminent and action should be taken immediately.
