River's Edge Toastmasters

River's Edge Toastmasters Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two.

From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The nonprofit organization now has nearly 260,000 members in over 12,500 clubs in 113 countries, offering a proven – and enjoyable! – way to practice and hone communication and leadership

skills. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.

Here is a tip from the Shepa Learning Company

RAMBLING LOSES PEOPLE
At a recent board meeting that brought together a diverse group of business leaders, it was interesting to note the different communication styles. During the round-table discussions, those people in the higher positions of leadership spoke in clear, concise and impactful ways while others rambled, taking their time to make their point, and providing vague answers when questions were asked of them. It made it difficult to concentrate on what the latter were saying and understand their message.

When thinking about the relationships you want to build with others, be aware that the ability to communicate in a way that draws people in quickly is a better approach than being The Convoluted Conversationalist.
