Let’s talk about smoke. Wildfire smoke can affect your health, especially for children, older adults, and people with heart or lung conditions. Even short-term exposure can be harmful.

Smoke contains fine particles and gases from burning wood and other organic materials. The main health concern is fine particles, which can irritate your eyes and airways and may worsen heart and lung conditions.

Even if you are healthy, it’s still a good idea to avoid breathing smoke when possible. Please take a moment to read both flyers for important information on wildfire smoke health risks and steps you can take to protect your family.

Visit AirNow.gov to check the Air Quality Index in your area.

Note: Any donations received after 2:30 PM may not make it to the wildfire crews.

The donation response has been amazing so far! Public Works just took this load down to the main site at the fairgrounds. We will continue to make trips as often as needed.

⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: DONATION DROP-OFF LOCATION ⚠️

To ensure our firefighters can respond to calls without obstruction, please DO NOT bring donations to the Fire Station.

📍 All donations must be taken to the Town Hall Main Lobby next door. Town Hall is the official collection site, and we are making transport runs from there to the main drop site as often as needed. Thank you for your incredible support and for helping us keep our station clear for emergency operations!

Look at this response! 👏 Because of your generosity, we’ve already filled these pallets with donations for the crews battling the wildfires.

We are making a transport run down to the main drop site this afternoon and will continue to make trips as needed. If you’d like to contribute, our lobby remains open for drop-offs during normal business hours.

Most needed items:
💧 Water & Sports Drinks
🥨 Prepackaged snacks (jerky, protein bars, trail mix, chips, etc.)

Thank you for helping us take care of the responders on the front lines!

4/22 9:30 AM WILDFIRE UPDATE:

- No roads in Clay County are closed.
- The fire continues to remain south of Green Cove Springs (Sweat Road), and east of Highway 17 to the county line. We’ll post an updated detailed map as soon as possible.
- We are pushing out a lot of information. Please take the time stay up to date on the latest about this fire.
- The smoke has pushed north past Green Cove Springs, and the air quality is diminishing. Please avoid the area where the fire is - the smoke along the highway is heavy.
- For those that are vulnerable to respiratory issues, please stay indoors. Recirculate your AC while driving.
- Clay County IS STILL UNDER A BURN BAN. This means absolutely no outdoor burning, except for grilling. You can learn more at claycountygov.com
- Now is a good time to look at the defensible space around your home - a 30 foot buffer from your home to wooded areas is a good rule of thumb.
- Ask yourself if you’re wildfire ready. To learn more, visit bewildfirereadyfl.com
- There are NO NEW VOLUNTARY EVACUATIONS in place aside from Varney Road and Woodard Lane, and officials have not deemed it safe to return to those areas.

- Please do not come look at the fire. It’s not safe!
- Avoid boating on the St. Johns River, as planes are actively gathering water to fight the fire.
- We appreciate the offers to come volunteer. At this time, we have enough resources, and we’ll let our community know if the need arises.
- We also appreciate the offers for prepackaged food and drink donations for our crews! We will gladly accept them at the Clay County Fairgrounds Cattlemen’s Arena!
- The Call Center is taking questions about this fire. That number is 877-CLAY-EOC.
