Tonight, El Modena’s Friday Night Live chapter was honored with the 2026 Chapter of Excellence Award at UCI’s Barclay Theatre.

Throughout the year, our FNL students worked hard to create meaningful programs and events for both our campus and the community, including Red Ribbon Week, Media Literacy initiatives, Read Across America, Youth Substance Use Prevention Workshops, and outreach events with local elementary schools.

This recognition reflects the leadership, heart, and dedication of our students and advisor Nicky Clark, who continue to make a positive impact through service, advocacy, and support for others.

Congratulations to our FNL students and Ms. Clark! Your Vanguard family is incredibly proud of you. ❤️

Yesterday, Orange Unified came together at Fred Kelly Stadium to celebrate some truly incredible educators and staff members making a difference every single day.

We are so proud to honor our very own Gabby County as El Modena’s Classified Employee of the Year and celebrate Kristen Mulder as one of OUSD’s Teachers of the Year.

Both of these amazing individuals represent the heart of what it means to be a Vanguard. Their care, dedication, and support for students and staff never go unnoticed, and our campus is better because of them.

Congratulations, Ms. Gabby and Mrs. Mulder! Your Vanguard family is cheering you on today and always. ❤️💛

A day like this reminds you what it means to be a Vanguard.

El Modena showed up strong at the Orange May Day Parade, from our baseball players representing on the Elk’s Lodge float to Carter Pilón and Skylar Schreck being recognized as Kiwanis Scholarship recipients.

We were proud to celebrate Kristen Mulder, OUSD Teacher of the Year, alongside board members Dr. Sierra Vane, Dr. Stephen Glass, Andrea Yamasaki, and Matthew Thomas on the horse-drawn carriage, while our marching band brought the energy performing with the Orange Unified School District band.

From start to finish, it was all pride, tradition, and community.

Our Vanguards showed up with heart at this year’s Olympiad Games.

This event brought together students from across the district for a day full of joy, competition, and connection. From every race to every cheer, it was all about celebrating effort, inclusion, and community.

A huge thank you to the staff and volunteers who made this experience possible. You created a space where every student could shine.

Proud to be part of something bigger. That’s Vanguard spirit.

Vanessa Hernandez is this year’s Senior Resilience Award recipient, and this morning we had the chance to celebrate her alongside her mom and grandma.

Her journey hasn’t been easy. It’s taken real courage, grit, and perseverance to get to this moment, and she’s earned every bit of it.

We’re proud of you, Vanessa. Your strength doesn’t go unnoticed, and your story is one that will continue to inspire our Vanguard community.

Big week for Vanguard Athletics… and we’re just getting started.

This Wednesday (4/29) we celebrate our student-athletes taking it to the next level at our Athletic Signing Day in the Quad during nutrition. Proud is an understatement.

Andrew Alvarez – Football, Chapman University
Sadie Ceballos – Lacrosse, Whittier College
Jake Davis – Soccer, Soka University
Layla Grajeda – Lacrosse, Whittier College

Come out and show them love as they make it official.

We’ve also got league play heating up across campus…

Varsity Softball (tied for 1st in Crestview League) hosts Canyon at 3:30p
Varsity Baseball (1st in Freeway League) hosts Pacifica at 3:15p

Track & Field League Finals at Fred Kelly Stadium and Swim League Finals are both going all week with multiple Vanguards competing. Pull up and support.

Then we close it out Saturday (5/2) with something special…

Amira Tomizh and Chris Zazueta representing El Modena at the OC All-Star Basketball Games at Cypress College.

Amira tips off at 5p
Chris at 7p

All students get in free. If you’ve been about Vanguard pride, this is where you show it. Let’s pack it out and support our seniors one more time.

Future Vanguards, this one’s for you.

Join us Monday, May 4 from 6–7pm in the Quad for El Modena Athletics Night.

This is your chance to meet our coaches, connect with current athletes, and get a feel for what it truly means to be part of Vanguard Athletics.

At El Modena, it’s more than just playing a sport. It’s about building something bigger. Competing at a high level, representing your school with pride, and being part of a program that pushes you to grow on and off the field.

For our incoming students and feeder schools, this is where your journey begins.

Come out, ask questions, find your sport, and see why El Modena is such a special place to compete.
