The Orange County Animal Shelter provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year. Happily, we have had great success promoting our animals on Petfinder and at Petsmart adoption events. Dozens of animals have been adopted by people who have come from many other states. If so, please let us know! The greater our reach the more homes we will find for th

e animals in our care. Although we are about 1.5 hours away from the Washington, D.C. metro area, it is an easy drive. You can even make a day of it and stop off at country stores, Civil War battlefield sites and a huge mall complex in Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg. And after all, what is a few hours in drive time when you will be meeting your new best friend? If you need help getting here, call us for directions.

🎉🐾 ADOPTED! 🐾🎉

Walker recently graduated from the Coffeewood Canines Program, and if you ask him, he was probably voted "Most Likely to Hear a Squeaky Toy From Three Counties Away." 🧸😂

This almost 6-year-old Hound mix excelled in the program, making friends wherever he went and proving himself to be quite the social butterfly. People? Friends. Dogs? Friends. Treats? Definitely friends. 🦴❤️

Walker has come a long way since arriving at the shelter, and his neck has healed beautifully. While his past wasn't kind, Walker refuses to dwell on it. Instead, he spends his days looking for adventures, collecting affection, and making sure nobody forgets to throw the squeaky toy one more time.

He has done well with dogs, cats, and children and is ready to trade his graduation certificate for something even better—a forever family. 🏡🐾

Walker is proof that sometimes the sweetest dogs are the ones who have every reason not to be.

🎓🐾 Pudding has returned from Coffeewood Canines, and she would like a moment of your attention.

Actually...all of your attention. 😄

This 5-year, 5-month-old, 33-pound Hound mix recently graduated the Coffeewood Canines Program with Top Milkbones honors 🦴 and is ready to put her new skills to work in a forever home.

Pudding has lived with dogs, cats, and kids, completed her heartworm treatment, thrived in foster care, and impressed everyone she met along the way. ❤️

Now she's back at the shelter, making sure she is front and center in every photo 📸 and wondering what a girl has to do to get adopted around here.

Remember Chewy (formerly Spock) and Yoda?

It sounds like these two have settled right into the good life! According to their family, they are the most lovable cats they have ever had. Yoda has become his young human's best friend, while Chewy has embraced his role as the fluffiest and most affectionate kitty in the house.

From couch cuddles to daily adventures, these boys are clearly living their best lives. We love receiving updates like this and couldn't be happier for Chewy, Yoda, and their family!

ADOPTION UPDATE

Remember Gandalph? Well, these days he goes by Cecil, and it sounds like he has settled into the good life!

Cecil adjusted quickly to indoor living and now happily shares his home with his canine companion, Westley. From racing through the house with zoomies and launching himself around his cat tree to claiming dog toys as his own, Cecil has made himself right at home.

We always love receiving updates, and it is clear this handsome boy has found exactly where he belongs. Thank you for giving Cecil such a wonderful home!

Mikey is doing well and taking his Assistant position at the OOY very seriously. His duties appear to include keeping a close eye on staff, providing moral support, and making sure no one gets up without his approval.

We'd say he's settling in just fine!
