As of today, February 16th 2022, the State of California has joined 46 other states in ending it’s mask mandate.
After two years of COVID being in the United States, the majority of Chapman students have gone back to living their lives normally. For most students, the only time they wear a mask is when they are in class on campus. The state of California no longer sees itself as being responsible for obligating individuals to wear masks. However, Chapman still enforces this policy. It is common to see students and professors wearing their mask below their nose. “It always seems to start with the nose,” says The Panther, acknowledging this reality. It is time to lift the mask mandate, give students back the education they have been deprived of, and allow them to enjoy social interaction face to face. This is not a demand to get rid of masks, but rather a call to allow students to be responsible adults and make the decision for themselves — something that both Orange County and the state of California have already done.
If the mandate is not lifted, there will be protests.
