Well said, Ted Brown, Libertarian for U. S. Senator from Texas.
Most of us have seen the photo of Isabella Gonzales, the 19-year-old soldier from Carrollton, TX who was killed at a U. S. base in Jordan. I removed the patriotic imagery from around the official photo. What we see is a young woman whose life was taken from her and her family because of the undeclared, illegal Trump War on Iran. This was a war of choice, not necessity, from the start. Trump and his minions thought they could win a quick victory, but they didn’t count on a populous, well-armed country actually able to fight back.
Trump is responsible for Isabella’s unnecessary death and the deaths of 16 other U. S. soldiers, as well as the 168 Iranian schoolgirls who were blown up as part of the initial war crime. The financial cost has been staggering. The loss of important military equipment that we need for our actual national defense has been monumental. The global economy could soon face a Trump Depression due to the closing of the Strait of Hormuz (which was open and operating before Trump started the war) cutting off access to oil supplies needed for energy, crop fertilizer production, etc. The economies of other Middle Eastern nations are being damaged by Iranian bombings, because they have close associations with the U. S.
We must stop this war now! To protect Trump’s fragile ego, his aides can just tell him that we won. If the U. S. gets out, it’s quite likely Iran will re-open the Strait of Hormuz, since their economy depends on it. We must cut our losses before we lose even more soldiers, weapons, equipment, and international reputation. But what we really need is to completely withdraw from the Middle East. Our political interference and military intervention in that part of the world for decades has regularly resulted in disaster. It’s time to withdraw all U. S. troops, close all U. S. military bases, and end all U. S. military and economic aid to all Middle Eastern countries.
Back to Isabella Gonzales and her family, who have suffered an unimaginable loss. I’m sure there will be interviews with them about why Isabella joined the military. My guess is that she was seeking vocational training or a future college education. Sadly, her life was snuffed out in a pointless undeclared war. Now we must worry about her funeral being disrupted. ICE has been targeting Hispanic people throughout America, including family members of active-duty soldiers, and detaining them without even checking immigration status. All I can say is: ICE, stay away from Isabella’s funeral!
