Our MELTDOWN IN DIXIE: ENGAGE, EMPOWER, TRANSFORM project, utilizes Meltdown in Dixie, an award-winning documentary film from Orangeburg native Emily Harrold, about the battle over a Confederate flag flying outside of an ice cream shop in Orangeburg, SC, to encourage critical thinking and social consciousness.

With unusual access to both sides of the fight, the documentary uses the frustration of one small town fighting over Confederate symbols to viscerally evoke the complexity and pain of confronting 400 years of white supremacy.

Although Center for Creative Partnerships has a history of presenting films accompanied by community discussions led by humanities scholars, this project reflects a new initiative through developing collaborations with organizations and communities throughout the state with the intention of continuing these relationships into the future. The first event in Hanahan, SC (Berkley County) will include a discussion after the film to be live-streamed here on our FB page on June 11th.

In some of these photos from inside the All-Star Triangle Bowl you can see the damage to the false ceiling from the leaky roof. We're so happy that our work to repair the roof and restore this historic property is almost ready to commence. (Photo credit to Leland Kent/published in "Abandoned Southeast")

Ellen Naomi Zisholtz, our President just arrived in Dallas as a guest at The National Bowling Association's 80th Championship Tournament & 82nd Annual Convention. We didn't know how excited the bowling world would be about our restoration of the All-Star Triangle Bowl at the center of the Orangeburg Massacre as pivotal in the struggle to end segregation in bowling!
