Monday nights training was held at our Taylor Road training facility. Instructors from Fire Safety Division - Erie County NY came out with the vent trailer and facilitated training on ventilation from the tower as well as flat roof ventilation techniques. Special thanks to Instructor Zacher and Seufert for sharing their knowledge and expertise.

Last night we joined East Seneca, Southline, Springbrook and Windom for training on first floor fire attack, second line advancement, and VEIS. A great night of training allowed us to continue to build working relationships with out of town companies.

With the purchase of the new Scott 5.5 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs) and C5 masks, our members have been diligently training to become familiar with our new equipment. From TOACs to evolutions at the Chestnut Ridge Tower with Fire Safety Division - Erie County NY Instructors our firefighters have been working hard to get our new packs in service.
Monday night's district drill took us to Wilbert's U-Pull It for vehicle extrication. We were joined by Windom Volunteer Fire Company to focus on airbags and lifting, strut placement with tie backs and foundational vehicle extrication and stabilization. Special thanks to the crew at Wilbert's U-Pull It for setting up our demo vehicles. It was another night of great training!

Orchard Park District Drill tonight was Tech Rescue. Practicing our rope skills at the Eternal Flame. If this looks like something you'd be interested in learning, contact us for more information.
We were still able to get in some tech rescue training Monday night. We started the evening with a RIT request from the Springbrook VFC but was returned to service during our response and then ran a commercial fire alarm at Tim Hortons. Once back at the firehouse we ran familiarization with patient packaging and hauling systems.

Saturday morning training up north! Every spring, Orchard Park firefighters travel to the Amherst Training Tower to take advantage of the county's basement fire simulator. This training is the best around for replicating the heat conditions felt during a residential fire in a basement. Crews worked hard in zero visibility and high heat to advance below grade to extinguish the fire. We were joined by members from the Windom Volunteer Fire Company and our mutual aid partners from East Aurora Fire Department. Thanks for joining us!

Last night's training focused on water supply, elevated master streams and the blitzfire monitor. Crews established a water supply using Engine 3 which then fed Truck 6.

Last night Orchard Park firefighters along with the Windom Volunteer Fire Company and Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Company conducted our annual bailout training at the Newton Abbott Fire Company, Inc.. The bailouts are arequirement for interior firefighters. Training topics also included calling the MAYDAY, current MAYDAY policy, and first floor hang-and-drops.

Yesterday, Orchard Park firefighters staffed Engine 2 as part of the DMAP for town-wide responses during the eclipse.
On Sunday, April 7th at approximately 2240 hours, mutual aid was requested by the East Seneca Fire Company, West Seneca Fire District #4 for a standby engine while they were conducting a search of a missing 13 year old juvenile.
Orchard Park Engine 2 responded to cover parts of the Town of West Seneca while mutiple fire companies were engaged in the search. Luckily, the juvenile was located safe.
Last night, members of the Orchard Park RIT held a joint training with members of the East Aurora Fire Department. We ran evolutions simulating a firefighter MAYDAY. Training topics covered disoriented firefighters, air emergencies and firefighter removal from a basement. Special thanks to the East Seneca Fire Company, West Seneca Fire District #4 for use of their aquired structure for our RIT training!

Once again thanks to our brothers at East Seneca Fire Company, West Seneca Fire District #4 for allowing us to train at your aquired structure this past Monday evening. Drill topics covered vertical ventilation, working from the bucket of Truck 6, building construction and sizeup.
Just before 2100 hours on March 5th the Orchard Park RIT was requested mutual aid to East Aurora Fire Department for a residential structure fire. Quick work by the first arriving companies had the fire knocked down. Rescue 7 and Chief 9-2 were placed in-service on the scene. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.

Yesterday, Orchard Park firefighters were alerted to a vehicle into the building at the CVS store on Orchard Park Rd. Chief 9-2 arrived with a crew from Orchard Park Fire District EMS and began patient care and building size up. Luckily there were only minor injuries and no structural damage to the building. Rescue 7 responded as a precaution to ensure scene safety while the vehicle was removed.
This afternoon Orchard Park was alerted to a vehicle into a tree on East Quaker near Franklyn. Once on scene with Hillcrest 9 and Town of Orchard Park Police Department Chief 9-2 updated Rescue 7 of no extrication being needed. OPEMS assisted on scene and units were returned to service in under an hour.
A special thanks to the fireman and officers of the East Seneca Fire Company, West Seneca Fire District #4. Last week we were fortunate to receive an invite from Chief Locher to conduct some mutual aid training. Crews from Truck 6 and Rescue 7 conducted VEIS and search evolutions. We appreciate the strong partnershipwe have with our brothers from East Seneca!

For awareness it has been reported that multiple cellphone providers are experiencing service issues nationwide.
It appears that AT&T is the heaviest impacted by this outage. Members of the community should be aware these outages may negatively impact your ability to text or place phone calls, including 911.
Some considerations if you need to call for help:
-Landline phones may be your best option until the issues are resolved.
-enable WiFi calling on your cellphone and utilize a WiFi hotspot to connect
-IPhone/Android users should consider utilizing the SOS feature if needed.
This is a Nationwide Issue, not one with just a local impact. We do not have any information on when the issue will be resolved.
Monday night Orchard Park firefighters ran the annual Task Orientated Air Consumption (TOAC) training. This course tests firefighters cardiovascular endurance while simulating common firefighters tasks. The goal is to give members a realistic picture of how they consume air within a controlled environment. The annual TOAC is mandatory for all interior firefighters.
Last week Orchard Park firefighters participated in two separate district trainings. For our apparatus operators instructors spent time reviewing policies and procedures along with safe driving practices. Once the classroom portion was complete chauffeurs participated in a cone course at Highmark Stadium.
Simultaneously, an ice water rescue awareness training was conducted at our Central Station. A review of the RDC, shore operations and safety procedures was conducted. A good training for our ice water technicians and those firefighters who support ice operations.
Just after 3:00pm this afternoon, the Orchard Park RIT was requested as auto aid to Newton Abbott for a residential structure fire. Deputy Assistant Chief Gorczyca arrived on scene and communicated a sizeup to the crew of Rescue 7. Once on scene the crew from the rescue stagged on the Alpha side of the structure. No injuries were reported and the RIT was returned to service in just under an hour.

Fire Prevention Message
Are you teaching your children how to call 9-1-1? With many households moving away from dedicated landlines, cellphones have become the main means of communication. But do your children know how to make that emergency call using a cell phone? Do they know how to navigate your locked screen?
For iPhone users, if Siri is enabled, children can simply ask Siri to call 9-1-1.
On Android phones, swiping up on the home screen enables children to select Emergency Call.
We encourage parents to teach their children the steps to make a call to 9-1-1 using their cell phone and to teach their kids their address. These simple steps can help first responders in an emergency.
On Monday, firefighters from Orchard Park and Windom Volunteer Fire Company participated in survival training at our Tailor Road Training Facility. We ran evolutions in our 2 level training maze as well as bailouts and basement window rescue. Thanks to the instructors from Fire Safety Division - Erie County NY for assisting our instructors in a great evening of training.

Yesterday afternoon the Orchard Park Fire Company said farewell to our Engine 1. For the last 22 years our 2002 American LaFrance engine served the communities of the Town and Village of Orchard Park. Now, in its new role, it will serve the citizens of the City of Lackawanna and will be staffed by Lackawanna Firefighters Local 3166.
Two different incidents caused power outages in Orchard Park in the last 24 hours. The video below is from yesterday afternoon on Armor Rd. when a tree service accidentally took out the lines while cutting a tree. Again early this morning the high winds caused lines to come down on 20A causing a second outage. Remember to stay away from any downed lines that you see and treat traffic lights that are out as a 4 way stop sign.
At a recent Orchard Park structure fire, first arriving firefighters were notified that there were two dogs in the house. The first dog was rescued at the front door by the chief on location. Firefighters entered the building to begin suppression and search for the second dog. Firefighters located the dog hiding in a back room, and were able to rescue it and unite it with its owners.
