NEWS RELEASE UPDATE (May 15, 2024): Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect in Feb. 8 Shooting

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a shooting that occurred on February 8, 2024 at a gas station at SE Sunnyside Road and SE 122nd Avenue. Detectives believe Javier Raul Ceniceros attempted to steal a 22-year-old man’s vehicle and shot the victim in the leg in the process.

Detectives identified a second suspect, a 17-year-old, and are referring robbery and assault charges to the Clackamas County Juvenile Department.

Ceniceros was booked into the Clackamas County Jail on the following charges:
- Robbery in the First Degree
- Assault in the First Degree with a Firearm
- Assault in the Second Degree with a Firearm
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon
- Menacing
- Assault in the Fourth Degree

Bail is set at $250,000. Ceniceros is also being held on outstanding warrants from Multnomah County (Attempt to Elude Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Recklessly Endangering).

Detectives are still working to identify a third person who was with these suspects.
The case remains under investigation.

Earlier (Feb. 8 2024): Sheriff’s Office seeks tips after man injured in shooting

Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a gas station located at the intersection of SE Sunnyside Road and SE 122nd Avenue.

Deputies arrived to find a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The victim reported a man who was with two other individuals attempted to forcibly steal his car. When the victim resisted, one of them shot him. Following the shooting, all three individuals fled in a vehicle.

Gas station employees who heard the gunshot rushed outside to help the victim and called 911.

The victim received medical attention at the scene before being transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.

At this time, it does not appear that the victim and suspects knew each other.

Detectives are actively pursuing leads to locate the individuals involved. They are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information that may be helpful to the investigation to call them.
