Important update regarding the ages of swim aides/assistants and swim instructors:

Communication from the DWD stipulates the following:

"15-year-olds can be lifeguards if they are certified lifeguards. If they would like to work as swim instructors, they will have to be certified lifeguards AND (emphasis added) then become certified swim instructors. They are welcome to cite federal law if they need something in writing."

While this communication does not specify rules for aides/assistants, the federal law does. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets/60-child-labor-lifeguards

So, in summary, 15-year-olds can be aides/instructors if they are A) certified lifeguards AND B) certified instructors. Now that WSI allows certification at age 15, this can be accomplished.

The .gov means it’s official. Federal government websites often end in .gov or .mil. Before sharing sensitive information, make sure you’re on a federal government site.

ANOTHER update on the LG depth requirements. While you *can* certify deep water guards in max depths of 7', the recommendation is still to certify them as shallow water guards.

The r.24 LG FAQs have been updated again to fully clarify depth requirements for facilities. Deep water certs can only be issued at facilities with water OVER 7 ft. If your facility's maximum depth is 7 feet, you are a SHALLOW water facility.

The Oregon Pool is looking for a Night time Pool Supervisor. Monday-Thursday 4pm-9pm. Starting wage is 14.75 an hour. Must have current Lifeguard cert. American Red Cross WSI desired but not required.
