With the warmer months approaching we have been noticing a spike in reports of pets running at large as well as animal bites. At the same time, we are receiving reports of wildlife acting suspicious or sick. We would like to take the time to make a post as a reminder to VACCINATE YOUR PETS because diseases spread through wildlife are highly preventable!!Here are a few core vaccines that protect your pets against these deadly diseases:

Distemper is spread airborne or via physical contact or saliva. Pets properly vaccinated against distemper are usually immune and breakthrough cases present milder symptoms.

Leptospirosis is spread through skin contact with infected wildlife’s urine. Like rabies, this disease is zoonotic to humans. Mostly found in wooded areas or standing water such as ponds or lakes with increased cases in the summertime. The vaccine is highly effective at lowering the risk of our pets contracting the disease.

Rabies is spread via bite or saliva from an infected wild animal. Vaccinating against rabies is state mandated due to the lethality of the disease to both our pets and humans. The vaccine is extremely effective at preventing infection of the virus.

Call your vet to make sure that your pet is up to date!!
