Wow! Our friends and neighbors outdid themselves this time. Our members were out once again clearing hydrants Monday night after the recent snow and we were all done in little more than an hour. That's because all of you pitched in. Roughly two-thirds of them had been cleared before we got there. Thank you all for your help. It is truly appreciated!

Once more ...

As the snow starts piling up, take a moment to walk around your home and clear any vents or meters. Snow-covered furnace, dryer, or water-heater exhausts can force dangerous carbon monoxide back into your house. Gas meters buried in ice puts a lot of pressure on your equipment that can lead to serious issues no one wants to deal with in the middle of winter. A few minutes with a shovel now can prevent a much bigger problem later.

"Once more unto the breach dear friends, once more." - William Shakespeare, Henry V

Here we go again. The Oreland Volunteer Fire Company would like to again ask our neighbors: While you’re out clearing your driveways and sidewalks, please take an extra few minutes to clear the fire hydrant nearest your home or business.

If there is a fire, precious minutes will be lost if firefighters first have to find the hydrant and then chip away the frozen snow to hook up their hoses. Please clear snow three feet in all directions around the hydrant. That will give the hose lines room to expand without kinking when they are charged with water.

After the last storm, many of you helped out by clearing the hydrants and it was greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The volunteers of the Oreland Fire Company would like to give a big shout out to the residents who helped us out by clearing snow and ice from the fire hydrants near their homes. It is greatly appreciated.

Crews were out last night clearing those hydrants that still needed to be done in bitterly cold conditions and the number that already been done made the task considerably easier. Thank you!

While you’re out clearing your driveways and sidewalks, please take an extra few minutes to clear the fire hydrant nearest your home or business. It’s especially important because single-digit temperatures are expected for at least a few days, which will cause the snow to freeze hard.

A significant winter storm with up to a foot of snow is forecast for this weekend and the Oreland Volunteer Fire Company has a favor to ask all our neighbors.
