It is with profound sadness that the Orient Fire Department announces the passing of 50-year member, Ex-Chief and First Assistant Chief William “Bill” Wysocki.

For five decades, Bill faithfully served our department and community with dedication, courage and pride. He was a respected chief, a trusted friend and a mentor to generations of firefighters. His commitment to the fire service and the lasting impact he made on our department will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Bill’s family, friends and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Chief. Your duty is complete. You have answered your last alarm, but your legacy will live on forever.

Services will be held at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 8, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. A Firematic Service will be held at 6:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Orient Cemetery.

At 05:11 the Orient Fire Department was dispatched with our tanker to assist at a working house fire in Greenport. Upon arrival, the bulk of the fire had been knocked down, and crews were operating on scene performing overhaul operations.

While standing by at the Greenport fire, Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to the Southold Town Recycling Center on Cox Lane for multiple pieces of heavy equipment on fire. With many crews already committed in Greenport, we were released from the house fire and redirected to the recycling center.

Upon arrival, Cutchogue had their ladder in operation and two hand lines actively fighting the fire. Our crews quickly established a water supply to support their operations while additional mutual aid departments arrived on scene.

Great job by all of the departments involved today. It is truly something special to work in a town where departments work together so seamlessly to protect our communities.

Last night, the members of the Orient Fire Department responded with Tanker 8-1-4 to assist at a garage fire on Shelter Island.

This was a challenging operation due to the location a flag lot set well off the roadway and not in close proximity to a water source. Incidents like this highlight the critical importance of mutual aid, coordinated tanker operations, and strong inter-department cooperation.

Great job by all departments involved for their professionalism, teamwork, and determination in bringing the situation under control safely.

Proud of our members for answering the call and representing OFD with dedication and skill.

🔥 Great Training Night at Orient Fire Department 🔥

Despite the high temperatures, our members put in solid work during training this week. We reviewed our Kodiak Rescue Jacks and practiced vehicle stabilization, making sure everyone stays sharp and familiar with the tools we rely on.
