Last night, the members of the Orient Fire Department responded with Tanker 8-1-4 to assist at a garage fire on Shelter Island.

This was a challenging operation due to the location a flag lot set well off the roadway and not in close proximity to a water source. Incidents like this highlight the critical importance of mutual aid, coordinated tanker operations, and strong inter-department cooperation.

Great job by all departments involved for their professionalism, teamwork, and determination in bringing the situation under control safely.

Proud of our members for answering the call and representing OFD with dedication and skill.

🔥 Great Training Night at Orient Fire Department 🔥

Despite the high temperatures, our members put in solid work during training this week. We reviewed our Kodiak Rescue Jacks and practiced vehicle stabilization, making sure everyone stays sharp and familiar with the tools we rely on.

Great job by all who participated—your dedication makes the difference! 💪🚒

Orient Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire – 3/23/25

At 2:40 PM on March 23, 2025, the Orient Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire. 8-1-31 was first on scene and confirmed a working fire with flames coming from the garage near the electrical service. Mutual aid was requested from East Marion FD for a tanker and Greenport FD for a RIT team.

8-1-32, 8-1-50, and 8-1-70 quickly arrived, geared up, and made an initial attack on the visible fire with a water can. Upon the arrival of 8-1-1, 8-1-2, and 8-1-4, two hand lines were deployed, and the team successfully extinguished the fire, containing all damage to the garage.

After thorough overhaul, all units returned to base. No injuries were reported.

A great job by all involved and a big thank you to our neighboring departments for their assistance!

🚨 Orient Fire Department Responds to Major Brush Fire in Westhampton Beach 🚨

Yesterday at approximately 2:00 PM, the Orient Fire Department was dispatched for a mutual aid response to assist Westhampton Beach Fire Department with a large brush fire along Sunrise Highway.

Our custom-built brush truck, 8-1-12, fabricated by members of the Orient Fire Department and modified after the 2012 Manorville brush fires, was put to the test. The truck, equipped with a new, taller, fully enclosed cage to protect firefighters while navigating deep brush and tall trees, performed outstandingly. Our team was able to assist in knocking down and mopping up heavy fire conditions in the wooded areas along Sunrise Highway.

In addition to 8-1-12, we also deployed Tanker 8-1-2, which played a crucial role in refilling brush trucks operating at the scene.

A great job by our crew and all departments involved in containing and extinguishing the fire. Strong teamwork and dedication ensured a swift and effective response.

Orient Fire Department Responds to Basement Fire

Orient, NY – At 4:16 PM on Saturday, January 11, the Orient Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a possible basement fire at the corner of Old Farm Road and Orchard Street.

Units 8-1-31 and 8-1-32 were the first to arrive on the scene. Firefighters quickly located the property caretaker, who reported seeing flames coming from the boiler in the basement. Smoke was present throughout the house.

Upon assessment, Unit 8-1-32 requested mutual aid from East Marion Fire Department for their tanker to support operations. When Unit 8-1-1 arrived on the scene, firefighters entered the building through the bilco doors on the “2 side” of the structure. Crews successfully shut off utilities and extinguished a small fire in the boiler.

To address the heavy smoke condition, a ventilation fan was deployed on the first floor to clear the house. Thanks to the quick and coordinated efforts of all responding units, the fire was contained, and major damage to the property was prevented.

The Orient Fire Department would like to thank the East Marion Fire Department for their assistance and commends all firefighters on the scene for their professionalism and dedication.
