@moragaorindafirefighters Firefighter/Paramedic Stiehr recently returned from the #beckwourthcomplex . There he was assigned as a Line Paramedic and worked closely with a REMS Module from @montereyfirefighters_local3707. MOFD still has another Line Paramedic deployed on the #dixiefire in Butte County and recently welcomed home two Safety Officers from the #riverfire in Mariposa County. Congratulations to former MOFD Firefighter-Paramedic Anthony Stephens who recently completed probation with Contra Costa County Fire. Anthony was with MOFD for over 10 years, and served as president of the Moraga-Orinda Professional Firefighters Association (MOPFA). With him we lost a tremendous amount of experience, local knowledge, and an amazing firefighter-paramedic. Anthony came by to visit after working a shift in neighboring Lafayette to accept an award of appreciation from the MOPFA.

An Excessive Heat Warning covering most of Central California over the next several days is in effect. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Moraga Orinda Fire Fighters are preparing for the wildland season, which is anticipated to be long and dry this year. The water tender (WT44) pictured here can provide a static water source. 2500 Gallons of water to be exact, that is 5x a normal fire engine tank of water. It is used in locations where there aren’t hydrants available. #wildfireseason #preparation #train #moragaorindafirefighters

...Red Flag Warning North and East Bay hills as well as East Bay interior valleys 11 pm Friday through 6 am Monday for offshore winds and lowering humidity... .A moderate early season offshore wind event will develop this weekend. This will occur as fuels are near record dry levels after a very dry winter. The initial burst of dry offshore winds will reach the Napa county hills around 11 pm Friday night and then spread across the East Bay overnight into early Saturday. These winds will usher in much drier air along with wind gusts in excess of 50 mph above 2000 feet. On Saturday breezy north winds will continue as temperatures warm well into the 80s with humidity values lowering into the teens and single digits. This pattern will help to rapidly dry out the fine fuels through the weekend.

Yesterday 2/28/21, MOFD firefighters from Stations 41 & 44 responded to an injured hiker. Due to the distance and terrain, a helicopter was requested to assist. H32 from CHP assisted with patient care and used a hoist to lift the patient aboard. They then landed at nearby Rancho Laguna Park where an ambulance was waiting. We wish the patient a speedy recovery and hooe to see them back outside enjoying the great weather.

Everyday we are faced with new challenges but no one wishes for this. Things could have turned out much worse...thankfully everyone is ok! 🤞🏻Speedy recovery to all involved!

On Saturday, February 20, 2021, at approximately 8:51 PM, Antioch Police Officers were called to the 1900 block of Auto Center Drive on the report of a citizen requiring emergency medical attention. A fire engine from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (ConFire) and an ambulance from American Medical Response (AMR) also responded to the medical call.

While tending to the patient, a suspect in a silver SUV drove by the team of first responders and began shooting at them. Afterwards, the suspect turned around and drove past the group again, firing a second series of shots. A ConFire firefighter and an AMR medic were struck by gunfire. The firefighter and medic were transported to local area hospitals, and their injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. An ambulance and a police car were also struck by gunfire.

Several Antioch Police officers chased the vehicle onto Highway 4, and the pursuit traveled through Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. The pursuit ended in the City of Richmond after the suspect collided with a parked vehicle and attempted to flee. He was quickly captured by officers from the Richmond Police Department and California Highway Patrol. A firearm was collected at the scene.

The investigation is still active, and evidence is being collected and evaluated. Anyone with information is asked to call the Antioch Police Department non-emergency line at (925)778-2441, or Detective Brogdon at 925-779-6895. You may also text-a-tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using the key word ANTIOCH.

The Antioch Police Department would like to thank the Pittsburg and Richmond Police Departments, along with the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol, for their assistance with this incident. A special thanks to CHP Golden Gate Air Operations and Contra Costa Sheriff Air Support Unit, who provided critical assistance during the pursuit. Our thoughts are with the injured firefighter and paramedic, who we thank for their service to our community.

Last night while you were [email protected], @contracostacountyfire and @californiahighwaypatrol responded to a multi vehicle collision on Hwy 24. Two patients were transported to local Trauma Centers. Multiple Engines and a Truck were used to divert traffic and protect Firefighters while they worked on extricating patients. Distracted driving which includes taking video or pictures of accident scenes has caused a rise in secondary accidents and injury to first responders. Please remember to slow down while passing an emergency scene and pay attention to traffic!
