According to Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O’Meara, who is the director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Town of Brookfield man(Madison County), Jacob Bishop, age 27 was arrested by members of the CAC on June 1, 2026.
On May 27, 2026, investigators at the CAC were advised by a member of the OCSO Patrol Division that Bishop, who is a NYS registered s*x offender, was residing at an address that he did not have registered with the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services. An investigation was then commenced by OCSO Inv. L. Dillenbeck and at the conclusion of the investigation, it was learned that Bishop had been residing at an address in the Village of Oriskany Falls and had failed to register the address with DCJS within 10 days as required under the NYS S*x Offender Registry Act/NYS Corrections Law.
On June 1, 2026, Bishop was located at a residence in North Brookfield and arrested by Inv. Dillenbeck and OCSO Inv. L. Brognano. The investigators were assisted by the OCSO Patrol Division and members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Bishop was charged with one count of Failure to Report Change of Address-Prior Offense, a Class D Felony under the NYS Corrections Law. Bishop was processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and held at the OCSO Correctional Facility pending arraignment in CAP Court on this date.

On Thursday, the Sheriff's Office joined the Oneida County Health Department NY, for a car seat checkpoint at the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company.

These events provide a unique opportunity to educate members of the public about how to correctly install a child seat.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, Patrol Deputies reported to a scene of a suspicious device on Utica St in the Village of Clinton.

After Deputies arrived on scene, they located what appeared to be an older Rocket Propelled Gr***de. Out of an abundance of caution, Deputies secured the immediate area and contacted the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit. They responded to the scene and determined the round was a training round and not a live round. The device has since been removed by the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit

Deputies have since cleared the scene.

There is no danger to public.

This past Wednesday, we were very fortunate to have Dr. Cheryllnn Lee from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office in California come to Oneida County to meet with law enforcement, firefighters, EMT’s, and 911 dispatchers to present her program - “Optimizing Wellness in the Face of Adversity”.

Thank you to the County Executive and to the Commissioner of Mental Health for arranging to bring this critical training to the first responders of Oneida County.

On Wednesday afternoon, several members of the Sheriff’s Office attended a retirement gathering in honor of Oneida County Family Court Judge Randy Caldwell. Sheriff Maciol presented Judge Caldwell with Honorary Credentials for his 20 years of service on the bench and for all that he has done for so many children and families. According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, this afternoon at around 2:45 PM, it was reported to Administration at the Westmoreland Central School District that a student had made a comment while on the school bus which was overheard by other students and deemed to be threatening. Administration notified the School Resource Officer who is assigned to the Westmoreland Junior/Senior High School and an investigation was initiated which involved the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Juvenile Aid Unit. The student who had made the comment was located at home and under the supervision of a parent. Interviews with the student and parent were conducted. The investigation deemed that the comment made was not a credible threat, and the student has not been charged at the time of this release. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring the safety of our schools and communities.

According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol, a Town of Vernon man was arrested on May 26th, 2026, following a dispute.

On May 6th, 2026, at approximately 3:12 AM, members of the Road Patrol Division responded to an address in the City of Oneida, regarding a dispute that occurred in the Town of Vernon. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that during a dispute, the victims 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was damaged by the suspect utilizing a sledgehammer.

The case was turned over to members of the Criminal Investigations Unit. As a result, Charles R. Tooke (37) of Vernon, was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (D Felony), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (D Felony), Attempted Assault in the Second Degree (E Felony), Menacing in the Second Degree (A Misdemeanor) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (A Misdemeanor). Tooke was processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and turned over the Oneida County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment in CAP Court.

During the 43rd Annual National NAFWS Conference, the Sheriff's Office Honor Guard participated in a joint flag presentation at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY. This event hosted by the Oneida Indian Nation, convened Tribal fish and wildlife professionals, conservation officers, and students for workshops, cultural gatherings, and technical training.
