Be aware of the heat. Make sure you stay hydrated and cool when outside and working.

Hot and humid conditions continue through the rest of the week before some relief is expected this weekend into early next week. Periods of showers and storms are expected into Saturday, though there will be plenty of dry hours as well.

Here at the Village of Orland Park, we have a dedicated Emergency Management team who work to plan in advance, coordinate under pressure and restore stability when disaster strikes.

You can find emergency managers in school districts and universities, local hospitals, non-profits, utilities, transit systems and retail to keep critical services uninterrupted.

We've noticed a giant thunderstorm complex moving across Iowa. Unlike the past few mornings, instability decreases sharply with eastward extent today. So, our expectation is for this complex to weaken as it moves eastward into Illinois. With that said, we can't rule out a continued threat for locally gusty winds, downpours, and frequent lightning this afternoon mainly along and south of I-80 (the complex may appear to make a right hand turn later this morning). The SPC Level 2/5 (yellow shaded) area outlines the area where such a localized severe weather threat will exist with this complex today.

More importantly, the complex of storms will lay out a boundary along which new thunderstorms may develop and ultimately train tonight into early Friday morning. Some of our model guidance is more aggressive than others with the overnight thunderstorm threat, but there are solutions with minimal thunderstorm coverage (so it's not a slam dunk). We favor this boundary being south of I-80, but we will be reevaluating throughout the day to fine-tune the location.

More showers and storms are expected today. A few storms may be severe, mainly in areas south of the dashed yellow line on the map in the graphic. Additionally, thunderstorms are likely to train over the same areas tonight, resulting in an increased threat for flash flooding. The greatest threat for flooding is in the Flood Watch/green shaded area highlighted in the graphic following.
