Joyce Public Library The Joyce Public Library serves the town of Orland, IN, and the surrounding area of Millgrove Township. We also house Orland's historical collections.

The Joyce Public Library was founded by Dr. William Joyce and his two sisters, Mary Joyce McKinley and Eliza Joyce. It was dedicated on March 24th, 1903, as a gift to the town, and occupied the second story of the brick building at the corner of State Road 120 and State Road 327. The original library, with its oak woodwork and cork floors, remains on the second floor. The second floor of the buil

ding also houses the historical collections of the town of Orland (viewing by appointment). The current town library on the first floor was renovated in 1995, and has many class photos of Orland High School from 1897-1964. We have winter and summer reading programs for children. we also sponsor a boat in the United Way's Cardboard Boat Regatta each summer, and participate in Orland Town Cruise-Ins (the town fills with historic cars once a month in summer). Please stop in and see us for more information!

Thank you to all the fifth graders that expressed an interest in joining us for Fractured Fairytales Summer Reading Program at Joyce Public Library. It was difficult to find a day and time that might work for everyone but we have decided the sessions will be on June 18 and 25, and July 2, 9, 16 and 23 at 2:00-3:00 in the afternoon. The library will not be open to the public at those times but parents of the children are welcome to hang out (in air conditioned comfort) while the kids are here.
Now we need to ask that parents/guardians either arrive 15-20 minutes early on June 18 OR call (260-829-6329) or stop in during normal library hours (Tues 4-8, Wed 1-5 or Sat 8-noon) so we can complete necessary paperwork. We are so looking forward to this fun event! Call us if you have questions. Thanks for taking the time to help your children attend.

We cannot begin to express our gratitude to Judy Milleman and her "committee of helpers" for hosting PARIS FASHION SHOW Spring Luncheon on May 9th. We were honored to learn that the proceeds from that event were being donated to our library. Never did we imagine that these tireless workers and the support of the entire community would lead to the check presentation shown here for $1800! The library has experienced some major expenses over a period of time that has greatly impacted our meager budget for such contingencies and this marvelous gift has allowed us to breathe a giant sigh of relief as we recover from those expenditures. So stop by and see us soon. And if you see Judy around town be sure to give her two thumbs up for ALL the work she does for our community.

Joyce Public Library is just SO PROUD of this young man !!! Matthew is our very first participant in our library's 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN program to have actually completed reading ONE THOUSAND BOOKS!!! He started in August of 2025 and this week attained his goal. This is a fantastic program that will hopefully foster a lifelong love of reading in this young man and give him a great start on his years of schooling. Matthew's little brother is also in the program and on his way to his 1000 books. Matthew has a strong interest in fire engines and so we rewarded his efforts with this battery-operated fire engine that has 4 different sounds and lights that make it more realistic. (Betting that poor mom going to want to find a way to remove those batteries 😂) Of special note, Matthew earned his 1000 books award by being read to by his family members, by reading to his little brother, and my favorite of all...he would sit and read to his cat. 😻. Congratulations Matthew and we look forward to seeing you in the library for many years to come.
