------------------------
Habitat for Humanity was founded as an ecumenical, non-profit ministry based on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety. Worldwide, Habitat affiliates improve people’s housing conditions through new home construction, rehabilitation, incremental improvements, repairs or increased access to improved shelter through partnerships with the private sector. Partnering with economically disadvantaged individuals and families, Hancock County Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing and to make decent, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Through monetary and in-kind donations, volunteer labor, and each partner’s “sweat equity", we are able to complete projects which are then financed under affordable mortgage loans. www.HancockCountyHabitat.org

Hancock County Habitat for Humanity Invites You to Groundbreaking and Land Blessing in Blue Hill Saturday, May 2, 2026

Hancock County Habitat for Humanity is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for our 21st new home on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026. This 3-bedroom home, designed By Architect Mike Sealander for a family will be built at 20 Carter Way, Blue Hill, ME.

Through monetary and in-kind donations, volunteer labor, and each partner’s “sweat equity", we can complete projects which are then financed under affordable mortgage loans at a fraction of market rate.
If you would like to help us complete our mission to have this house built by the fall 2026, we would welcome your volunteer time and skill, or you may donate funds to help the cause. Anything given is greatly appreciated. Without the generous support of our community, we would be unable to help these families experience the strength, stability and self-reliance that comes from having decent affordable shelter.

We wanted to acknowledge the loss of a great community leader, champion of the underdog and all around top notch human being, Mike Hewes. Over the years Mike gave many hours of his time and expertise to Habitat for Humanity, working on a number of homes for people who wouldn't otherwise be able to be home owners. His generosity of spirit and community minded approach is something we could all learn from. Our hearts continue to go out to his family, friends and to the entire Blue Hill Peninsula. We lost a good one!

View William Michael "Mike" Hewes's obituary, send flowers, find service dates, and sign the guestbook.
