With school starting and everyone getting back into their normal work routines, we’re seeing an increase in traffic on our roads. 🎒🚌☀️

Over the past two weeks, Orland Police Department officers have responded to several traffic collisions, so we’re asking everyone to slow down, stay alert, and give yourself a little extra time to get where you’re going.

Keep an eye out for students, pedestrians, bicyclists, and those heading to work. And remember being a few minutes late is a whole lot better than meeting us because of a collision! 😅

Stay safe, Orland. Slow down and drive safe! 🚔

K-9 Remi locates loaded firearm.

On 08/22/26 Orland PD responded to a call for service for the report of a male who had a firearm. OPD arrived at scene and safely detained the individual. During the investigation, it was determined the subject possibly discarded the firearm somewhere in the nearby neighborhood. K-9 Remi was ultimately deployed to conduct an area search for the outstanding weapon. K-9 Remi showed several behavior changes near a bush, where a loaded firearm was located and safely collected.

This is a prime example of how our K-9’s work to protect our community. This could have been a tragic situation if the firearm was not located and a child or other civilian later discovered it. Good job Remi!

🚨 THIEVES ARE AT IT AGAIN 🚨

Sometime around midnight last night, 15 stall mats were stolen from the back of Epic Barbell.

A police report has been filed.

If you were in the area around that time and saw anything suspicious — or if you recognized the truck please let us know.

These mats are heavy, and 15 of them didn’t just walk away. Someone saw something.

Please share and help us get the word out.

While we hope these situations never occur, training and open communication are essential to ensuring everyone is prepared to respond in an emergency. By working together, we continue to strengthen our partnership and our shared commitment to providing a safe learning environment for every student and staff member.

Thank you to the Orland Unified School District for your continued collaboration and dedication to school safety.

The Orland Police Department’s Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) are dedicated members of our community who generously volunteer their time to support the department and enhance public safety. Whether assisting with community events, conducting house checks, helping with traffic control, supporting emergency operations, or providing administrative assistance, our VIPS are an invaluable part of our team.

Recently, our VIPS represented the Orland Police Department at the 2026 Senior Expo, where they had the opportunity to meet with community members, answer questions about the program, and share information about the many ways they serve Orland. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello!

Interested in giving back to your community? We’re always looking for dedicated individuals to join our VIPS team. Applicants must complete a 10-week training academy, pass a background investigation, and have a desire to serve.

For more information or to request an application, contact the Orland Police Department at (530) 865-1616 or email [email protected].

Thank you to our VIPS volunteers for their continued dedication and commitment to making Orland a safer and stronger community.
