The Institute for Sport and Social Justice is now The Huddle: A Sport Leadership Institute.

For 40 years, we’ve been pioneers in gender-based violence prevention and leadership development. Today, we’re bringing that legacy forward with renewed focus and vigor.

The Huddle unites our work under a sports-centered identity built to advance our mission, meet the needs of today’s sports leaders, and deepen our impact.

The name is new. The legacy is strong. And we’re ready for what’s next.

Looking back at spring: Batter up! ⚾ During MLB Spring Training, our team was on the field facilitating gender-based violence prevention training with the Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago White Sox.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at this decades-long partnership, where these clubs invested in in-depth facilitated discussions and skill-building for their players, coaches, and staff.

Shoutout to the SMU Mustangs for partnering with Huddle Up ahead of the upcoming football season.

Last week, our team had the opportunity to work with student-athletes on sexual consent and healthy relationships, equipping learners with the skills to foster safer, stronger team cultures.

As collegiate programs prepare for the year ahead, there’s still time to invest in leadership-centered, bystander intervention training that empowers athletes to step up for their teammates and communities.

In honor of tonight’s NBA Finals tipoff, we’re taking it back to one of the organizations we know well: the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs hold a special connection to our Institute. Their General Manager, Brian Wright, is an alum of the DeVos Sport Business Management Program, and we’ve facilitated training sessions with the organization in San Antonio.

It’s always rewarding to see our program participants lead at the highest levels. The Spurs are known for their five NBA championships, but what stands out most is their commitment to building a championship culture throughout the entire organization.

That’s the kind of leadership we’ll always salute.

Happy 80th Birthday to our founder, Dr. Richard Lapchick!

Today, we celebrate not just a birthday but a legacy. Dr. Lapchick has spent his career fearlessly fighting for civil rights, equality, and justice through the power of sport. As a human rights activist, scholar, and the visionary founder of the Institute for Sport and Social Justice, his courage and conviction have inspired generations. Quite frankly, we wouldn’t be here without him.

Thank you, Dr. Lapchick, for dedicating your life to the pursuit of equality for all. Your impact is immeasurable, and as an organization, we are committed to upholding the values you’ve championed.

Our Huddle Up team is on the ground in Phoenix this week with the Arizona Diamondbacks, facilitating leadership training for all employees and administrators. The Diamondbacks truly walk the talk—investing in their people and fostering a culture of inclusion, safety, and growth. Grateful for the partnership and excited to cheer them on during their Pride Night game!

Our Huddle Up team is on the ground at !

This week, our Director of Huddle Up, Spencer Bonahoom, co-facilitated a live Huddle Talks session alongside Tori Niemann and La’Ron Haywood for an audience of over 200 student-athlete professionals. Together, they tackled some of the biggest questions facing college athletics today, from shifting policies to NCAA changes, and explored how we can continue to show up strong for our student-athletes amidst external challenges.

Grateful for the energy, honesty, and practical strategies shared in the room. Let’s keep the momentum going!
