An underutilized parking lot became a community asset in New Smyrna Beach when the Marine Discovery Center in the County of Volusia removed a 22,000-sq-ft asphalt lot to restore coastal habitat and living shorelines, winning them a Diamond Award in 2026. Smart technology meets environmental resilience in Cape Canaveral! In 2026, the City of Cape Canaveral- Government won the Excellence in Big Data & Technology Award at the ECF Diamond Awards for reimagining a dry retention pond into a "smart" rain garden equipped with atmospheric sensors. The new rain garden became a community resource while also helping inform city leaders with atmospheric data.

A new chapter begins at the ECFRPC! At yesterday's council meeting, Chair Curry officially passed the gavel to incoming Chair, Mayor Chris Cloudman of City of DeLand, FL.

The Council also celebrated County of Volusia Councilmember Jake Johansson for his dedicated service on our board and executive committee. Mayor Cloudman and Councilmember Johansson thanked the Council for its collaborative efforts across the region.
