A new episode of Orleans: Behind the Scenes is now available.

This episode focuses on the proposed Fire-Rescue Station and what residents will see on the upcoming Annual Town Meeting warrant. Fire Chief Geof Deering joins us to walk through where the project stands today, what has happened since last year's votes, and what the next steps could look like.

We also address a number of questions submitted by residents to help provide clear, straightforward information ahead of Town Meeting.

Listen wherever you get your podcasts.

More proof that our communications center is the best of the best!

How many emergency fire services calls came from your town? During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we have to mention how hard our telecommunicators worked during the Blizzard of 2026, when call volume for the 13 fire departments dispatched at the Regional Emergency Communications Center skyrocketed. While everyone else was advised to stay home, public safety telecommunicators work harder than ever.

Have a question about the Fire-Rescue Station project? We want to hear from you.

The Town has created a simple online form where residents can submit questions about the project, including the need for a new facility, the proposed design, site considerations, and upcoming Town Meeting articles.

Questions submitted through the form will help shape the conversation.

Submitting your question in advance helps ensure we’re providing the information the community is looking for as we prepare for Town Meeting.

Thank You to the Crews Who Carried Orleans Through This Storm!

Over the past week, Orleans experienced one of the most significant winter storms in recent memory. Through it all, our DPW crews, Fire-Rescue, Police Department, and utility workers showed extraordinary dedication, professionalism, and care for this community.

They worked around the clock - clearing roads, responding to emergencies, restoring power, and helping residents navigate difficult and uncertain conditions. Long hours, dangerous conditions, and complex challenges were met with steady commitment and teamwork.

We are especially grateful to our Orleans crews, many of whom are pictured here, who went above and beyond to serve their community when it mattered most.

Their efforts ensured that roads reopened, power was restored, and residents remained safe. Orleans is stronger because of their service.

On behalf of the Town and the entire community - thank you.

As we continue to respond and recover from this week’s historic blizzard, we wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank our telecommunicators at Barnstable County Sheriff's Office who have handled thousands of emergency calls and radio communications over the last few days. They have demonstrated the exceptional poise and professionalism that we routinely take for granted.

Thank you!

Orleans Fire-Rescue Chief Deering has an important winter safety reminder for the community.

There are nearly 1,000 fire hydrants around town. DPW and Fire-Rescue are actively clearing them, but if residents and business owners are able to safely dig out the hydrant nearest their home or business, it makes a real difference in an emergency.

While you’re out:
❄️Clear snow away from dryer and heating vents to help prevent fires
❄️Check on your neighbors, especially anyone who may still need help getting out

These simple steps help protect homes, responders, and our community. Thank you for pitching in!
