🚨💧Ormsby residents: when we meet Thursday this week, there will be an important discussion and decisions that will affect everyone’s water billing. Below are a few items that the council will be hashing out. I encourage anyone to attend to please voice your feelings to the council to that they are here as representatives of the citizens and these issues need addressing.

#1 - curb box (shut off valve) ownership: as it stands per current ordnance, the homeowner is responsible for all repairs from the residence up until the main line. Meaning that if there is a leak anywhere in that line, the homeowner is responsible for costs associated for repairs if any damage or leaks occur all the way up to the main line INCLUDING underneath the road.

#2 - unused infrastructure fees: currently per the existing water ordinance, if you own a lot that has infrastructure available to the lot, you are charged the minimum amount each month even if you are not using it. Think elevator lot, house that was tore down by knights years ago, vacant lots where at one time, water and sewer was there, that is now shut off, capped etc.. but is still available. These property owners pay for utilities that they don’t use. However, if this is changed and results in them no longer paying the minimum fee each month, the water and sewer budget will face a short fall of over 4200 dollars. The result of this is having to make up that in the budget spread across all the residents.

As your mayor, I have my own personal opinions on what needs to happen and change, and I will not share them on the city’s page but rather my own, however I will remind everyone I do not vote unless there is a tie. THEREFORE, I am encouraging anyone to please come up to the meeting this Thursday 05/07 at 7pm and voice your feelings to the council on how these and other issues should be handled for your city!

Testing of the siren will be at 1:45pm and 6:45pm today. We encourage you to practice storm-warning safety & protocols within your households at these times.

THURSDAY OUTDOOR SIREN ACTIVATION: Watonwan County Residents, the Watonwan County Sheriff's Office 911 Center will be activating the outdoor sirens at 1:45 and 6:45 PM for Severe Weather Awareness Week. The Office of Emergency Management encourages workplaces and families to use this time to practice and discuss what you would do when severe weather hits at home, work, school, daycare, and recreation events.

ACTIVACIÓN DE SIRENAS EXTERIORES ESTE JUEVES: Residentes del condado de Watonwan, el Centro 911 de la Oficina del Sheriff del condado de Watonwan activará las sirenas exteriores a la 1:45 p. m. y a las 6:45 p. m. con motivo de la Semana de Concientización sobre Clima Severo. La Oficina de Gestión de Emergencias insta a los lugares de trabajo y a las familias a aprovechar este momento para practicar y dialogar sobre qué medidas tomarían en caso de que se presente un clima severo en el hogar, el trabajo, la escuela, la guardería o durante eventos recreativos.

Good morning Ormsby Residents, recently we have seen an uptick in our infiltration into the sanitary system. Most likely cause is sump pumps that have begun to run with the spring melt. If you could please move sump hoses to drain outside into the storm sewer, we'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks again so much, this issue has been ongoing for YEARS but with persistence we have seen a great amount of progress on our I&I and have been doing great so far over the last 12 months. Let’s keep it up!

SNOW EMERGENCY UPDATE :

At this point, the plow has made the 1st go around town. Right now conditions are TREACHEROUS. The east side of town is IMPASSABLE as of 1800 this evening due to huge drifts from continuing wind gusts.

The plow will not be going out again to clean up a 2nd round until tomorrow morning. ROADS ARE CLOSED across the region. STAY HOME.

🚨❄️ The city of Ormsby is now in a snow emergency, please have vehicles cleared curb to curb. With the no travel advisory and some local plow’s already pulled, reports of accidents and jack knifed semi’s, our plow will likely make its pass this evening or early tomorrow morning. Stay home, stay warm, think spring.
