CAMPFIRE CONVERSATIONS - Sharing Community Perspectives on the Blue Mountain Forest Plan

What to Expect: Community members will have the opportunity to participate in guided conversations about topics including cultural life sources, water, and forests.

Date: September 9th, 2026
Time: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: Wa-A’Yas Community Center

During discussions, participants will:
Talk about what is important to them and their community.
Explore how Forest Plan decisions could affect the lands, water, and resources in the Blue Mountains.
Hear and learn from other community members.
Share experiences, knowledge, values, and concerns.
Learn how their perspective can be shared during the Forest Plan Revision process.

➡️About the Project
The Nez Perce Tribe’s DFRM is looking to return marine-derived nutrients to rivers while expanding efforts to harvest treaty shares of salmon and steelhead in the Snake River Basin.

➡️Purpose of the Project
Historically, over 2 million salmon and steelhead returned to and spawned in the Snake River Basin providing critical marine-derived nutrients to the rivers and to the Nimiipuu.

Current returns provide only a small fraction of this past bounty.

➡️Goals of the Project
“Feed the rivers and feed the people”

➡️Details for Fall of 2026
• DFRM will start purchasing fish Wednesday, September 9, 2026 & Friday, September 11, 2026.
• $5/lb. for whole bled fish for human consumption (higher quality).
• $2/lb. for whole bled fish for nutrient enhancement (lower quality).
• Purchase times are from 10AM – 2PM.
• DFRM expects to purchase fish every Monday, Wednesday, Friday from early September to middle of October.
• Fishers & Processors paid by requisition process of NPT finance department.
• NPT finance department will mail or direct deposit payment to project participants.
• Further specifics on implementation in independent contractor agreements.

• Enrolled Nez Perce Tribal member
• Age 18 or older

Marlene Marie Walker (Joye), 79, passed away at home in Kamiah, Idaho on Sunday, August 16, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1946 to Joseph Scott Joye and Sally Marie Walker.

Marlene was sibling to Marvin, Melvin, Calvin, Darlene, Eileen, and Ida.

Marlene married John W. Walker on July 1, 1963.

They had 5 children Loree Walker-Midstokke, Sally Ann Walker, Lizzie Dyan Casto, John W. Walker Jr., and Audrey Jo Walker.

She had 13 grandchildren, Amber, Lorisa, Chasity (Kevin), Andrea, Lakota, Michael (Latasha), Josh (Kara), Matthew, Jesse, Stephen, Jojo, Sierra, and Mac'coy.

She had 24 great-grandchildren, Zayana, Kadem, baby Whittle, Natalia, Brooke (Kevin), Ashley (Riley), Gage, Charles, Christopher, Cassidy, Emma, Wesley, Blake (Kaylynn), Brennan, River, Gabriel, Dravin, Kyron, Micah, Trevor, Justin, Tallon, Axlynn, and Ryder.

She also had 6 great- great grandchildren Sophia, Evelyn, James, Loretta, Keven Jr., Karmen.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Sally, siblings Marvin, Melvin, Darlene, and Eileen, daughters Sally Ann and Lizzie Dyan, grandchildren Lakota and Jesse.
