Cooking up holiday magic? Don’t forget fire safety!

Most home fires happen in the kitchen, so stay close to your stove and keep flammable items away from burners. And remember: if a grease fire happens, don’t use water, instead cover it with a lid or use an extinguisher.

Keep your holiday meals delicious and drama-free. May your gravy be smooth and your kitchen fire-free!

Keep that Christmas tree looking festive AND safe!

A hydrated tree is a happy tree, and a safe one. Water it daily and keep it away from heat sources like fireplaces, heaters, or vents. Dry trees are flammable, and no one wants a holiday “fire drill.”

Tip: Check that water every day, your tree (and your family) will thank you!

Happy Hanukkah from the Orono Fire Department

As families and friends gather to celebrate the Festival of Lights, we wish everyone a joyful and safe Hanukkah. If you’re lighting a menorah, remember to place it on a stable, fire-resistant surface, keep it away from curtains and decorations, and never leave candles unattended.

May your homes be filled with light, warmth, and peace throughout the holiday. Stay safe and enjoy the celebration!

‘Tis the season… for cozy fires and holiday lights! But don’t forget your carbon monoxide detectors!

CO is invisible and odorless, but a working detector can keep your holidays merry and bright. Test your detectors, replace old batteries, and make sure your units aren’t older than 7 years.

Let’s keep the only surprises this season in your gifts and not in the air!
