September is here. Time for a fall cleanup. Orono Cleanup Day is Saturday, September 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at Public Works, 365 Old Crystal Bay Road.

From appliances, electronics, and scrap metal to household items that can be recycled, reused, and donated, Cleanup Day makes it easier to keep unwanted items out of the trash and put them to better use.

We are still looking for a few more people who care about the city!

Orono is looking for community members to serve on the 2050 Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee. The Comprehensive Plan is the City's long range guide for growth and development. This group will help review goals and policies for the plan, provide feedback and bring community perspectives to the conversation as we look towards out city future.

We’re looking for 8–10 residents to serve, with a commitment of approximately one meeting per month for about 18 months.

Applications are due September 18.

Who will represent you? Get to know the candidates.

The November election is a big one. Voters will elect two City Council members, three School Board members, and many other local, state, and federal leaders. These are the people who will make decisions that shape our community, schools, laws, public services, and everyday lives.

Several candidate forums are coming up, offering an opportunity to hear directly from candidates, compare their answers, and prepare to make an informed choice when you vote.

You spoke. We listened.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in the Orono 2026 Community Survey. It is our best community survey turnout to date! Residents gave us valuable insight into what makes Orono a great place to live and where we can continue to grow. As these results give us a better understanding of what matters to our community and will help inform the Orono 2050 Comprehensive Plan as we look toward the future.
