This week we're highlighting one of Orono's neighborhood gems- Roberta Lee Antoine Park.

This 1.2-acre neighborhood playground was generously donated by Roberta Lee Antoine and provides a welcoming space for families, neighbors, and visitors to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors.

The park features:
- Playground equipment
- Picnic tables
- Benches for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings

Whether you're meeting friends at the playground, enjoying a family picnic, or simply taking a moment to enjoy nature, Roberta Lee Antoine Park offers a charming community space right in the heart of the neighborhood.

As a fitting connection to Pollinator Week, the park is also home to a pollinator garden, helping support bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators while adding beauty and color to the park throughout the growing season.

Lydiard Beach is currently closed due to elevated levels of E. coli detected during routine water testing.

For the safety of our residents and visitors, swimming and water activities are not recommended at this time. The beach will remain closed until follow-up testing confirms that water quality has returned to safe levels.

We will update this post as soon as we receive notification that the beach has reopened.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

A monarch butterfly may travel up to 3,000 miles during its annual migration between Minnesota and Mexico!

That's one of the longest migrations of any insect on Earth.

Along the way, monarchs rely on habitats filled with native plants and milkweed to rest, feed, and reproduce. That's why local efforts, like planting native gardens and protecting pollinator habitat, can make such a big difference.

The next time you spot a monarch fluttering through your yard, remember: it may be on an incredible journey spanning multiple countries!

Starting at 9 p.m. on Wed, June 24 through noon Mon, June 29, prepare for lane reductions on Hwy 12 in both directions. Eastbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to one lane between Central Ave./Co. Rd. 101 and Carlson Pkwy., and westbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to one lane between Gleason Lake Rd. and Shoreline Dr./Co. Rd. 15.

Please note that the moveable barrier system will not be in operation during this period as crews cannot safely activate the barrier due to space constraints caused by the construction work. You don't need a large prairie restoration project to make a difference for pollinators. Even small changes can have a big impact:

- Plant native flowers that bloom throughout the season
- Add milkweed to support monarch butterflies
- Provide a shallow water source with stones for landing spots
- Reduce or eliminate pesticide use when possible
- Leave a small area of your yard a little wild

Every flower planted and every habitat created helps support the bees, butterflies, and other pollinators that keep our ecosystems healthy.

We know we have some great ideas out there in our community...what's one pollinator-friendly change you've made in your yard?
