Weekend Highway 52 southbound detour planned for 85th Street bridge repairs north of Rochester, Aug. 28-31 in Oronoco.

Highway 52 southbound motorists north of Rochester will experience a weekend-long detour, Aug. 28-31, while crews make repairs to the 85th Street bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Starting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28, Highway 52 southbound will be closed until 5 a.m. on Aug. 31. During the closure a detour route will be in place. Northbound Highway 52 will remain open.

After this closure, a single lane closure on Highway 52 southbound at the 85th Street bridge will continue into October.

During various parts of the project, motorists will experience short-term detours and lane closures. The work is expected to be completed in October.

This summer has been a wild growth year! 🌳

With all the rain and sunshine this summer, grass, brush, shrubs, and tree limbs have really taken off. While we love seeing everything green, some areas of overgrowth are beginning to create visibility concerns at intersections, blind corners, driveway entrances, and roadway approaches, as well as creating obstructions hanging over the roadways themselves.

The City of Oronoco is asking property owners to take a look at their property and help keep sight lines clear for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, emergency responders, and snowplow operators. Maintaining these areas isn't just a good neighbor practice, it's also required by City Code. Ordinances prohibit trees, shrubs, and other growth from obstructing visibility in intersection sight distance areas or creating safety hazards. Violations may be considered a public nuisance and are subject to enforcement. Full Ordinance link here: https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:d0224820-dce7-4dc6-b690-b64226f31ad0

Before fall arrives, please consider:

βœ… Mowing and maintaining boulevard and right-of-way areas adjacent to your property
βœ… Trimming trees and low-hanging branches that affect visibility or loom over the roadways
βœ… Clearing brush and vegetation near intersections, corners, and driveways
βœ… Checking in with neighbors who may need a friendly reminder or extra help

Our goal is education and cooperation, not enforcement. We know this has been an exceptional growth year, and we're hoping residents will help spread the word so these issues can be addressed before winter preparations begin.

As the City gets ready for snow season, locations that continue to present safety concerns may require corrective action. If City crews are required to perform maintenance to restore safe visibility or clear traffic lanes for safe passage, those costs will be charged back to the property owner as allowed by ordinance.

❀️ Oronoco has always been a community that looks out for one another. Let's work together to keep our streets safe, our neighborhoods looking great, and avoid unnecessary costs for residents this fall.

**A little trimming today can make a big difference tomorrow.** πŸŒΏπŸ‚πŸšœ
